My wife and I went to Hungry Chico's this weekend, despite the cheesy name...is was very good. We chowed down and ate for less than $20 for the both of us together.

I had the beef burrito and the wife had the chicken. I agree with the previous post that the portions are a little smaller than I expected and the meat was a tad to chewy. However, it was very good and I think we are craving it again to we might go back tonight.

The home-made chips and salsa were some of the best I have ever had.

My wife and I traveld across the island to enjoy this tasty treat, however, when we got there............

Hungry Chicos closed this week. Some guy said the Mom was getting too old.

I would have thought the son would have taken it over.

Turns out that the Landlord of the "3 Budeez" cafe was a liar.

I emailed our buddies at Hungry Chico and he said that his Mom is in good health. They had a dispute with the land lord so they had to depart their ways.

They are currently trying to find a new location and will let everyone know once they are set up.

^ Thanks for the update.
Checked their website for their side of the story:

". . . with effect from 30 Jun 2008 (Mon), Hungry Chico ceases operation at 214 Tanjong Katong Road as a result of failed negotiation with the landlord."
http://www.hungrychico.com/

Guess Mom wasn't one of the "Budeez."

Hope she finds another place soon.

If you'll follow the link to their website an e-mail address is listed. I sent them an e-mail and asked to be notified when they find new digs, they wrote back almost immediately and said they would.

If you want to be notified, send them an e-mail and get on the list.

Viva Mexico

Post by denisu » Fri, 01 May 2009 7:31 pm

Just went to Viva Mexico (Cuppage Terrace) to for lunch after reading the review on TimeOut. My advice AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS, unless you are ok paying S$150 for mediocre fajitas for 2 (only the fajitas - no rice - no beans), weak margaritas, S$6 chips. Completely disappointing!

Google search turned up some possibilities:

Margarita's on Faber Drive looks promising.
Some reviews indicated it might be pricey, but this is not surprising given the menu seems to have real Mexican dishes -- Mole, El Pollo Al Carbon, Ceviche.

El Toro Restro Bar on Penang Road.

Kiko Rico on North Canal Road.
Looks like good value.

For Tex-Mex, Santa Fe on Stewords Riverboat.

Haven't tried these yet, but they're on my list now.
If anyone has tried these, would be interested in hearing what you thought.

My wife and I like Mararita's; the food is somewhat close to authentic. (Salsa isn't that close but the guacamole is great) The menu is straight forward and uncomplicated. A bit expensive but since it's the closest we've found yet, it's worth it. Their margarita's are good, not at all watered down.

El Toro's is just okay, it seems they're more concerned with presentation and atmostphere than the food. A bit expensive and the music is too loud. (I like loud music in bars, not so much in a restaurant.)

Kiko Rico, haven't been there yet.

Fully agree with you Denisu, very disappointed. I think they want to be a good place, the wait staff is very attentive and courteous, but the prices are ridiculous and the food is more Indian than Mexican.

Hey, I tried Kiko Rico... the roasted chicken is really good and super value for money.
Great that they do delivery too!
