Margarita's on Faber Drive looks promising.
Some reviews indicated it might be pricey, but this is not surprising given the menu seems to have real Mexican dishes -- Mole, El Pollo Al Carbon, Ceviche.
El Toro Restro Bar on Penang Road.
Kiko Rico on North Canal Road.
Looks like good value.
For Tex-Mex, Santa Fe on Stewords Riverboat.
My wife and I like Mararita's; the food is somewhat close to authentic. (Salsa isn't that close but the guacamole is great) The menu is straight forward and uncomplicated. A bit expensive but since it's the closest we've found yet, it's worth it. Their margarita's are good, not at all watered down.
El Toro's is just okay, it seems they're more concerned with presentation and atmostphere than the food. A bit expensive and the music is too loud. (I like loud music in bars, not so much in a restaurant.)

Just went to Viva Mexico (Cuppage Terrace) to for lunch after reading the review on TimeOut. My advice AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS, unless you are ok paying S$150 for mediocre fajitas for 2 (only the fajitas - no rice - no beans), weak margaritas, S$6 chips. Completely disappointing!
Fully agree with you Denisu, very disappointed. I think they want to be a good place, the wait staff is very attentive and courteous, but the prices are ridiculous and the food is more Indian than Mexican.
