Dress code "Elegant" Singapore Race Course

I have an invitation this Sunday from Singapore Airlines for the SIA sponsored race at Kranji. Dress code is "Elegant". Event starts at 3 p.m. till 9 p.m.
I am told by my friend that black is too dressy for 3 p.m.
What actually is one expected to wear at such an occasion?
