I have an EP, my misses has an LTSVP

Post by matt1984 » Wed, 14 May 2008 4:52 pm

Does anyone know how difficult it is for her permit to be converted into an EP?

Or does it really depend on the willingness of the employer and type of job that she will be applying for?

FWIW, she's a trainee accountant (6m's from qualification with 3 exams remaining) and is experienced with credit derivatives...

Any help would be great.

Why is your wife on an LTSVP? Am I to assume here that your "missus" is a de facto wife? Otherwise she should be on a Dependent's Pass as you are on an EP. If she has as dependent's Pass she doesn't need an EP as she can be employed will only a "Letter of Consent" from MOM via the employer. As it stands now she will have to fight the gamut of her qualifications, if any, and other qualified persons for her own EP.

But, yes, you are right. It depends on the willingness of the employer. That is why you see lots of advertisements that say Citizen or PR only. Additionally, they may not have a quota available to them as well.

SMS, I believe Matt is referring to his fiancee rather than his trouble and strife.

SMS,

THe LTSVP is the Long term social visit pass.

Saint,

You are indeed correct.

Does anyone know how difficult it is for this type of Visa to be 'upgraded'?

Thanks.

Just had the same situation couple weeks ago ...

I dont know if it was because my girlfriend had the LTSVP, but her Employment Pass (S pass) was approved in 1 week.

I believe it matters, but dont know ... normally should take more than 1 week to get the visa approved.

Cheers,

Matt1984,

I am aware what a LTSVP is (I'm an HR Manager). When I replied to your post I took the word missus as meaning wife (which it is normally associated with). Saint remembered your earlier posts which indicated you were not yet married. I didn't realize it at the time of reply.

As far a the EP being approved because of the LTSVP, No. It will not have any bearing on the approval at all. However, as I said, had she been on a Dependent's pass she wouldn't even need the EP as she could work on a "letter of consent".

"S" Passes are normally processed and approve within one week. This is nothing out of the ordinary (I currently have over 50 "S" pass holders working for me, and another 40 WP holders as well. (almost half of my workforce are foreigners).

So, it still depends on the Employer's needs/quota and your girlfriend's qualifications.

The LTSVP does not "get upgraded". It's a matter of a new Visa being issued based on her qualifications and the employer sponsorship instead of your sponsorship.

For the record, the LTSVP is issued by Immigration (ICA - Immigration & Checkpoint Authority) and Employments Passes (all) are issued by MOM (Ministry of Manpower).
