Does Singapore recognize US child custody arrangements?

Post by Swim Mom » Tue, 13 May 2008 2:27 am

Husband and I are moving to Singapore with children for 1 yr. My oldest child from a prior relationship will be coming with us and his dad initially agreed with the arrangement. The main concern is that Singapore is not a party to the Hague Convention, and he is afraid that I will abduct him and his rights won't be upheld in Singpore court, etc...
Does anyone have any experience with moving to Singapore and still having ex at home with joint custody? I can provide more details if needed.
Just to mention, we are not abducting our child to Singapore, my husband works in the Oil / Gas industry so we're just going until project is over / school year ends. We are already enrolled in a school over there, all of our assets will still be in the US.
Thanks!

I will assume that you have primary physical custody.

I would think that if you decree does not specify how far you can move you shold be ok. However, I will bet your decree has visitation schedules.
Everyother weekend and alternate holidays.

These specifics that you both probably agreed to with have to be upheld. That is the fathers rights.

IF I am not mistaken the rights that you have and the child are the same one stipuated in the decree.

Custody issues vary from state to state. I would advise you contact the lawyer that performed you divorce.

If you have primary physical custody and you do not make you son available for agreed visitation then you may be charged with paerental kidnapping.

Be advised: If I am not wrong. If you do get charged with parental kidnapping and leave the states you will have a nice little photo on the Interpol web site as an International Criminal.

See a lawyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
