Weekend Trip from Singapore to Malaysia or a small island

Post by Justin_Br » Fri, 09 May 2008 3:03 am

I am hoping you could help me begin looking for some good weekend get aways that would be within 1-2 hours out of the city that a couple could do for a weekend or a short vacation. Also, a beach would be a requirement as well as some things to do once we arrived other than simply sunbathing all weekend. Prefer not to fly there, so a bus or train or etc mode of transportation would be great.

I would be open to any activity with the exception of diving since I do not have my certificate but swimming/snorkeling would be in. Ideally the beach would be first choice but I would be open to any other interesting ideas.

:D lately we are going to Bintan and Batam on weekends.

Its more then enough to stay for 1 night.
Bintan... Staying at Bintan Lagoona there is a beach, and all sorts of sea activities , like kayaking, jet skies etc You can get there by Ferry about 40mins from Tanah Merah Terminal

Batam.... We were staing in HOliday Inn and Harry's, believe it or not, we did not dare to got to beach, hanged around swimming poo  l, although all the same activities are available there.....but the most wonderfull thing about Batam are the trips to the SPA

I had been to Kukup recently and found it's a very unique place to me. It's around 1.5 hrs drive from woodland checkpoint. A fishing villeage with floating fishing farm. Kukup national park is good to visit in the morning. Blue crab, mudskipper...lots of natural thing to see.

Kukup and the surrounding national park is really beautiful - it has been a while since I've been there tough.

Bintan is ok and conveniently reachable by ferry. They've got water sports so there's something to do... but for me personally, it feels too much like an extension of Singapore! :)

Very resort-ish and "safe".

I just came back from Batam. Day filled with spa and pool. Cheap shopping too. Alternatively, I would suggest Tioman, Malaysia. Beautiful undisturbed raw nature. Even if u dont have a licence, you can always try the introductory lesson. The chalet i put up in even issue basic scuba certification!
