Home Birth
Hi, Im pregnant with my 2nd child (due Nov) and would like to have a home birth. I had my 1st baby at home in the UK. Is there anyone else here who has recently delivered this way, or planned to but ended up in hospital at the very end?
Ive found the various sites for doulas as I will probably hire one to attend. I had a fantastic doula in the UK and would like to find a great one here too.
I understand there are no private midwives here in Sg which is a shame as the thought of an OB or Dr being present in a birth that is going perfectly well seems too much.
So it would be great to hear from anyone with previous natural homebirth experiences or someone with similar plans.

hi, i wanted a home birth with number 2, i looked into it here and i think there may only be 1 doctor here who wil allow home births, have you found one? or i think the other option was to fly in your own private midwife with as you imagine is pretty costly.
I ended up flying to sydney to have my homebirth there

Yes Ive found a couple already (Australian) plus there are also a couple in Bangkok who are happy to come over here too, so its just a matter of me choosing the one I feel most comfortable with.
I dont think Singapore midwives are allowed to do homebirths as they arent covered in their insurance, same with expat ones but it doesnt stop you having an agreement with them.
I just find it really strange here that everything is ob-gyn lead rather than leaving it predominantly to midwives, who have much more full-labour experience than any ob-gyn.

I really want to re-create the fabulous experience of a homebirth that I had with DD1 back in the States for baby #2. Our original plan was to go home for the birth but unfortunately with DH's work schedule, there's a high chance that he would not be there for the birth and that's just not going to work. So I have relented to looking into a homebirth here.
It's been done. I plan on speaking with a doula in a couple weeks as she has more experience with it, being that she had a homebirth here as well.
As a very, very last resort, I hear Thompson is going to be the most "natural" enviroment (as natural as a hospital can get...).

Homebirth
I had a homebirth for my first baby in Singapore. Was very hesitant initially to have an obgyn attend but could not find a midwife. Then had a very fast, straightforward birth with my husband plus Ginny Phang as a doula plus Dr Lai Fon Min and he was *wonderful*. He was so good to have at the birth that I have been wondering whether I could fly him to Europe when I have a homebirth there in the future! Highly recommended. My birth was so good I can't wait to give birth again!
