Hiring/Cost of Maids

Post by Justin_Br » Thu, 08 May 2008 10:39 pm

I was wondering what the current rate for maids are, ex S$/hr or an other measure.

Also, is there a maid service that someone would recommend?

I am ideally looking for an agency that would allow 2hrs per week with no agency fees. However, if I had to pay agency fees I would want to minimize them.

I am living in a condo that is approx 800 sq.ft so I feel that 2hrs a week is enough to clean.

I would be open to a maximum of 3 hours a week but I seem to only see 4 hr minimums.

Your thoughts/experiences are much appreciated.

Currently paying $10/hr.

Went through an agency.

Had to go through 4-5 before finding one that was compatible.

What agency did you go through?
Does the agency have any fees?
Are the maids avilable for less than four hours?

If you mind me asking why did the first 4 maids not work out?

Wife made the arrangements.
Will have to ask her when she gets back from HK.

Current maid is a retired hotel housekeeper.
She works 3 hours at a time, 3-4 days a week.
She's slow, but otherwise reliable and trustworthy.

Actually, she's more of a sweet old aunt.
Think she does this to keep busy.

As for the previous attempts:
One was clumsy - broke a few things, like nice wine glasses.
One had a sour personality - annoying and not very good at cleaning.
One never returned after the first day.
Forgot what the issue with the other one was.

I pay S$250 to a group of 5 ladies to take care of my 800sq apartment 4 times per month . I need not worry of things that I need to buy as they provide everything, seriously, including my aircon, plumbing etc. They do not like me to tell them how to do their work and trully respect them. Afterall , it is very bad ideas to be messing around with ladies who weld spanners and hammers

Each time they are here I will just go for my groceries, to the pool etc to relax and they will call me once they are done.

I don't care how much time they spend as long as the same people come to my place always and I need noy teach them what to do. They know what they are doing and very professional, right up to how I want my bed to be done and towels folded. Maybe five brains is better than one    Sorry ... bad joke ....

At the end of the day, getting a part time is to improve your lifestyle and they should be not a burden.

Three Important Point when chosing your Part Time Helper :

1. When chosing a helper, give them a month to show results. And do not hesitate to change when they slack. There are more than 20 companies to chose from.
2. Choose those who have regular in house training, look at their in house training records before using them.
3. Make sure they are legal, insured etc. A company who take good care of their workers have good workers and a happy worker is a happy helper.

Iskandar,

Please do not keep spamming the same messages across multiple threads/forums. Also, please do not keep advertising the same two agencies across multiple posts. The subsequent posts made containing the same information as this post have been deleted as have duplicate instances of the listing of the two agencies. What you are doing is pretty obvious and it won't wash.

Sorry.
She's working as much as she wants right now.
Can't get her to increase her time with us as it is.

Wife found the agency through the internet, but doesn't remember which one anymore.
Given that only 1 of 5 over a 6 month period worked out, wouldn't consider them a good choice.

Best to define in advance the kind of person you want in as much detail as possible.
Let the agency screen based on your criteria rather than you doing it by trial-and-error.
