I only have a student pass. I heard that its illegal to hire foreign students to work. I'm not sure.. But I could really use the money. I was thinking of places like starbucks, burger king, etc..

Is that possible or is it illegal like dealing drugs?

Thanx.

As far as I am aware, foreign students are not allowed any kind of employment at all.

You are all nothing but cash cows for the government to milk. Of course if asked, the government will tell you something along the lines of 'it's for your own good'.

Does that mean I should apply for a work permit?

at914,

Following is the text from the MOM website:

Employment of Foreign Students

Foreign students are not allowed to work in Singapore during term time or vacation time unless they are granted Work Pass exemption under the Employment of Foreign Manpower (Work Pass Exemptions) Notification. The details of the exemption notification are available below.

Foreign students who wish to undergo any form of Industrial Attachment (IA) must apply for a relevant training pass (either Training Work Permit or Training Employment Pass). They will be prosecuted under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA) if they are found to be undergoing IA without a valid training pass.

Exemption Notification

* Part-Time Employment of Foreign Students

Apologies for that, my distatse for this government sometimes clouds my judgement.

That said, my statement does apply to all the foreign students studying in all the private educational institutions here, and there are many of them. I have known quite a few and I find the way they're treated extremely unfair. Somehow they don't qualify as 'real' students here. They are the educational equivalent of foreign labour as opposed to foreign talent.

I will be more careful in future however.

Thanx Andy. I have yet so much to learn about the Singaporean Gov't. haha.

I think I'll be fine though. Every country are prejudice one way or another.
