Anyone here have done mandibular reduction before? Please share your experience. Is the operation painful? How long is the recovery time?

What would you mean by Mandibular reduction?

I had my upper jaw pulled up and pushed in. In the process, had to shift my lower jaw in and my chin, out. This is oral-maxillofacial surgery. It's major stuff and the process is very long ( you need to put in time for orthodontic work to ready the teeth and recovery long since you need to be out of action for over a month.... is this what you mean?

I think she's talking about shaving the mandible so the lower face width wont be so large, not an osteotomy. Never expected to see a ortho patient here too. You had Lefort 1 + BSSO?

Yes the procedure is very invasive and recovery time is long, risk of perma altered sensation in lower jaw and chin area..

Eh?? Eh, you doing medic speak with me ah> Cannot understand the big terms leh. :-) But now that you mentioned Lefort, there's a flood of memories, man!
Okay then, this is more just a shaving of the jaw. No, not what I did.
The sensations changes ordinarily range from "strange" to totally numb. Mine was very well done - I have all the sensations before. Thank God!

Haha pai seh, i thought usually those people who go jaw surgery will know all this terms. Cos it's a MAJOR surgery, so ya im surprised your surgeon didn't tell you. You're very fortunate to have all your sensations back..
