Internet Advertisers

Post by ropak » Tue, 22 Apr 2008 4:22 am

Hello everyone. I am moving to Singapore in about a month as a regional director for an American avertising technolgoy company, and I am curious to know if any people in these forums would consider themselves as part of this industry. I'm curious to know if there is a part of town where the new Singapore digerati hang or go out. I am anxious to link up with this community and dive in deep.

Are you talking about micro-sites? Blog advertising?

I think the OP is talking about ad servers/networks like AdBrite and the local equivalent.

Any and all of the above. Ad serving, site building, creative, etc.

I'm just looking for a community of people to get to know outside of the forums...both socially and professionally....not any particular skill set. If there isn't one formally, perhaps we need to start one. Any takers?

OP, I think what we're asking is which area of "advertising technology" you're involved in.

There are industry events sporadically and the distinction between each are rather grey. Some are more informal and social, others agenda driven. It really depends on which faction of the digiterati you're looking for.

I work for a division of Yahoo that specializes in ad serving technologies, and specifically the ad exchange known as Right Media. The platform is used by web publishers and advertisers for the efficient buying, selling and exchanging of web advertising inventory. Think NASDAQ for online ad inventory. Many large web publishers have millions of web page views that they have difficulty selling at the right price or even finding the right buyers, so the exchange makes that easy and scalable. I will be coming into SG just before Ad-Tech Singapore, which should be a great event to meet the local players, but I'm not sure how known that conference is in Singapore yet. Anyway, would love to meet anybody remotely tied to this part of the industry, whether you are an afilliate specialist, blogger or large website publisher.

unfortunately there isn't such part of a town where such groups of people hang out.

but I do know you can join in a business forum on YahooGroups which I knew , perhaps there may be some like minded people inside like you.

you may contact me for the forum if you are keen to try

Ad:tech is a good start, you should be able to meet most of the high profile players there. The air there might be a little rarefied for the more independent and/or creative driven though I suspect they may not be who you're looking for professionally.

ropak, I would think that if you're in seek of online communities and such, you would be more likely to be looking at Social Media.

I do know of communities here in Singapore involving in such ads, but I will not actually recommend them here. Any business conducts that are less than transparent and honest, it is in my belief that it doesn't help anyone or the industry as a whole. In fact, one of such companies has gone through waves and waves of criticism over the past year.

It's not too difficult to do a search, since we have a limited number of ad-serving companies here. They are quite visible on the search engines.
