if you want walking distance, then you will need to look in changi. slightly away will be tampines and pasir ris.

please note that studio or 1 bedrooms flats are not common in singapore so your best bet is to look for a 2 bedrooms flat.

Frankly, I would suggest Tampines, Simei or Pasir Ris cos of the following reasons:

1) These are public estates as compared to the houses nearer to Expo which are more expensive in nature and hence commands a highly rental.

2) If you wish to see the real Singapore, then Tampines, Simei or Pasir Ris is more like it. You can always invest in a bicycle and it wil not take more than 30 mins to cycle from these estates, particularly Simei, to the Singapore Expo.

3) Houses near the Singapore Expo are faraway from amenities and hence kinda inconvenient.

4) Lastly, the big shopping malls are in Tampines, Pasir Ris and a smaller one at Simei. I am sure you will love to some restaurants and boutiques when you are available on Saturdays.

Hopefully, what I have contributed will help you in making your decision.

Regards.

Take a look at Savannah and Changi Rise condos if this is more what you are looking for...5-10mins by bike

Hello all

Thank you for all your replies. This is helping me a lot to look around and picking my rental. I noticed that there are no studio or 1 bed room concepts. I have lived in San Francisco for over 5 years and the best way to live by ureself is a 800 to 1100 $ studio. But, I guess I will have to get into sharing which is not that bad if you have the right room-mate.Unlike some of my friends who experienced some crazy ones.

I think a 2 bedroom in an around expo is ranging from - 2300 to 2800. Which is steep but staying away from expo and saving $ 200 and travelling everyday and spending between $ 80 to 200 would make it almost the same plus all the facilities which these condo offer are worth something.

I am still looking and from your tips I will look in Tampines, Simei or Pasir Ris. I have always felt its better to stay close to work as we work 5 days and over the weekend we anyways travel to tour some new site. And I would hate to spend 1 hour or hour of life everyday in a train/bus to get to work.

Now the other thing being are there good/cheap daily (egg/milk/fish/rice/bread) grocery stores in the Changi/expo area?

Once again Thank you to all.

Hi Vki,

We've just moved out from Changi Court, which is about 2 bus stops (10 mins walk) from expo. It is a nice condo with full facilities and the rental for a 2 bed room would be $2500/mth. The bus stop is just outside the condo so it's not too bad if you decide to take the bus on rainny days (bus fair over here is cheap, about 65 cents for 2 stops). You'll find it difficult to get a one bedroom or studio around this area.

Hi Vki,

Yes, as far as I know, the 2-bedroom units at Changi Court come with bathrooms as well. The total area is roughly 900+sqft. Quite decent to be shared with another person.
