Baby sleep expert - help needed

Post by sim1310 » Sat, 19 Apr 2008 9:52 am

I am having all sorts of on going sleep issues with my 8 months old and am at breaking point. In Australia we have Tresillion a service that helps with such issues. You can go to see them for a day or stay up to a week, depending on the help you require. Is there anything like that in Singapore, or can anyone recommend a baby sleep expert I could talk to in Singapore.

Thanks
Simone

I completely know how you are feeling, my son did not sleep from the time he was born until 16 months old, we were at breaking point and i nearly flew to sydney to trasillion. I read this fantastic book in the end called the sleep easy solution and we had to go through a few rough nights of him screaming and throwing up, but it was really worth it, he know sleeps from 7-7am although he does wake occasionally in the nights.... Good luck maybe try and find that book and stick with it..

you can try bathing your baby with a little bit of lavendar oil. and when the baby is in bed, play classical or nursery music in the background.

Having been down this road also I can only suggest that once you find a routine that works stick to it.

I do note that is shown that breast feed babies sleep better than non breast feed babies, although that didnt stop mine from still being unsettled till we sorted their routine out.

Yea same here, my son was breast fed but he still didnt sleep..I think bottle fed babies prob sleep longer periods as they are fuller from the formula.
But I def agree, get a bedtime routine going, ride the storm and you will get there, it may take a few weeks but it is worth it.

Formula always gave my little ones the vomits worse than breast milk and so it wasnt used very much except when my wife was just too tired, I also found the following helped.

1. wrapping the baby up tight in the blanket, they dont seem to like sleeping loose.
2. sleeping with mum or dad, the sound of the heart, the small, and the general noise is better than a cot, I also ended up cuddling the newborn in the bed, all snug and tight, needless to say they slept I didnt.
3. warm bath befoe
4. no cold air an not too much light as well as quiet
5. once the routine is established break at your peril, if the sleep at 3.30Am you might want to break it but otherwise let them set it as they seem to go, it will be easier.

I can honestly say i tried everything with my son and nothing helped unless he was in our bed and even then he still woke and in the end i got so fed up i had to do the controlled crying, which i think was worse for me but worked after a week.
What kind of problems are you having with your baby?

Mine are past now, my kids are 4 and 5, but i remember having to deal with it and my wife being so exhausted by it that. The biggest things that seemed to work was breast feeding, wrapping tight and in the same bed as mum and dad. but if they start crying I used to walk them around in a sling or in my arms if the wife was exhausted, back patting coz of the wind, which often seems to be the source of crying, checking the nappies for poop, all sorts of little things can set the baby off so its sorta a checklist you run through. We did try dummies for a while but that didnt work much either but its worth a shot.

We used to go for midnight drives, for some reason baby would drop off to sleep in the car.

She is 2 years old now and we still have to occasionally do our midnight duvet drive, in fact last night if your saw a black Toyota zipping around and around the block at 2 am it was us!!
