Post by tangy13 » Thu, 17 Apr 2008 11:57 am

Hi,
are there any prenatal yoga instructors in singapore?
are there any mum-to-be 's interested in prenatal yoga?
maybe we can pool in and organise a class and hire an instructor? I am happy to host the classes at my place...(punggol area)
pls let me know if anyone has any info or ideas.

yes there is at least one, but you should also be aware of the dangers of doing prenatal yoga as it is inherently dangerous for the baby. Please do NOT take my word for it. Do some google research as I did for verification. I would only do so if I could ascertain with certainty the the instructor(s) is(are) qualified (and I do mean prenatal qualified) with a track record of same.

No, I can't get pregnant but had this discussion with a fitness instructor who was absolutely adamant about it's dangers. Below is the thread:

I agree that the instructor should be experienced and knowledgeable about the pros and cons of various postures and how they affect the pregnant body. Doing yoga or any prenatal exercise will benefit you because it helps strengthens the muscles that support the skeletal structure which is put under strain during pregnancy. In my experience I have found that too much exercise, i.e. power walking and swimming can cause discomfort. So it is always better to train under the eye of a good instructor. I did part of my training with Dr. Ann Tan who is one of the head OB-GYN doctors at Mt. E. and is a great advocate of yoga. Colleen
