hello there, I don't know much about the PR industry.

All i can say is have that our Kiwi's *CAN DO* attitude...jump in and give it a go!

It's not too bad here , the *BIG* city itself you are thinking of isn't that *BIG*. Singapore is I dont know 1/7th of our Kiwiland? ok they have 7 times as many people as ours, but hey it's just PEOPLE right..

Beside , this is rather modernised/westernised. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up working for a Kiwi/Aussi/English/American/Irish boss ..my understanding is PR industry is pretty hot here to...i mean in general Singapore economy is HOT and job market is HOT too...

Try google Singapore websites for job search , have a look at your area, do a bit of research...

There's a kiwi/aussi club for support too http://www.anza.org.sg/ and plenty of us around

NOT scary at all :D

Good luck!

Searching for work in Singapore - US citizen

Post by InQiMe » Mon, 14 Apr 2008 7:00 am

I feel your pain. I too am trying to get to Singapore (from the USA) and am moving for personal reasons (my soulmate lives there). I am currently looking for a company to "hire" me. I am a career Exec. Admin Assist. in Corporate environments and I have owne and operated an Independent Record Label in Los Angeles, Callifornia from 1997 to 2006 so I have a HUGE marketing background. SO, I gues i'm just trying to find like minded folks to give me advice or at least sympathize with my situation. I am DYING to get there......but havent' been successful, yet.

Hope to hear from you.

[quote="NZPR"]Without writing a book about myself, I have (after 4 years of studying) spent the past 3 years working for a boutique PR consultancy, across a broad range of accounts (everything from banking to fashion to airlines to design) and have in that time done everything from the mundane (but necessary) task of stuffing envelopes and compiling databases to full blown ‘read all about it’ media relations, crisis communications, copywriting, advertising, websites and everything in-between

So please. Anyone. Someone. Take a little time to help a [scared] Kiwi girl who always likes to look before they leap, and share some advice/knowledge to appease my curious and overly anxious mind?

What’s the PR/Marcomms industry in Singapore like; how difficult is it for foreigners with my level of experience to secure jobs in this or a related (i.e. advertising) field; what do employers in the ‘Big City”
