Transport from Meyer Road into town?

Post by clearbend » Fri, 04 Apr 2008 10:27 pm

Hi, we are newly arrived in Singapore and are looking to stay at the Makena condo on Meyer Road, near the East Coast.
Are there direct buses or private shuttles from Meyer Road to Central Biz District?
How easy is it to flag down taxis in Meyer Road (do they ply there in the mornings)?
What are the costs? Time of journey?

From CBD back to Meyer Road - I am not worried, as I can catch taxis from downtown. It's the morning commute that I worry about, as Meyer Road seems to be a quiet side-street with lots of condos.
Thanks for your advice.

Hey,

I live off Meyer and my GP is in the Makena!
Taxis are pretty easy to get on Meyer - I don't really see that being a problem unless it's raining, then you're probably better off just ordering one on the phone.
I have no idea about the private buses - they have them on Tanjong Rhu but that's on the other side and quite a walk for you. I would have thought there would be some that go down Meyer though as its quite a big road.
As for buses - you'd probably have to walk down one of the side roads to get to Mountbatten Road - maybe the one down the side of the children's playground opposite your condo. Then you can defintely catch a bus (I can't remember the numbers, 14 or 16?) to the city.
Good luck
AC

AC - thanks for the tips (nice to have helpful people in the 'hood!).
Our agent said that there might be a private or executive bus service from that area, but I guess that we'll find out more when we move in and ask around.
We did not see any shops nor eating places on Meyer Road either ... although admittedly we've been there only once. Thank you.

There's a little shop in your condo! on the ground floor next to the clinic/health centre.

If you turn right out of the condo and walk down Meyer road there's a larger local grocery shop that sells fresh fruit, vegetables and has a freezer section. I've been there once - its jam packed with things!

Food is a bit tricky. The closest shops/eating places that I know of are on East Coast Road/Katong, Parkway Parade and the new Kallang Leisure park which has a Cold Storage as does Parkway Parade. If you want very local hawker food - there's a food court in the Tanjong Rhu HDB Block on Fort Road near the junction with Meyer but closer to the Esso stations.

I cook most evenings or buy takeaway when I'm out during the day. If we do go out to eat during the weekdays then we might go to Waraku or the HK dining place on East Coast Road. I do my grocery shopping at Parkway - there's 3 pretty big shops - Giant, Cold Storage and outside there's an NTUC Fairprice, or Kallang or sometimes at Suntec (Carrefoure).

Hope this helps.
AC :)
ps. Sakae Sushi does home delivery...

AC - excellent first-hand information! I will show my wife your posts - she will be much re-assured! Seems that Parkway Parade will be our new local mall in 2 weeks' time. Thank you again for your altruism.
