Looking for builder

Post by dbenne22 » Wed, 02 Apr 2008 12:09 pm

I have recently bought a cluster house and want to do some renovations - kitchen / bathrooms / tiling / painting etc, so nothing structural.

Can anyone recommend a builder they have used recently for similar work at a reasonable price ?

There are a myriad of 'design companies' who seem to all use the same Chinese materials, the same Malaysian cabinets and labour, and all want to charge a 50% premium for their 'advice' - so I'm trying to find a well recommended builder I can deal with directly who is happy to work on a more reasonable margin.

Any advice gratefully received.

HI you may try this link :

www.weiken.com

I am very much into Balinese design which was very well carried out by weiken.

There are different portfolios that you can look at ,,to get an idea. :)
Always have a smile on that face!

Thanks Chixchix, but this pleace looks suspiciously like a 'design company' ? What I'm looking for is a builder who doesn't have the overhead (or margins) of a design company.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

Yellow Pages

Thanks - I had thought of that (duh) but was hoping to find someone through a referral - otherwise it's very much hit and miss whether the contractor is any good.

did you get sorted out with a builder in the end? I'm also looking for a recommendation of a building contractor.

A 'proper' builder - not a "designer"

Post by dbenne22 » Sun, 06 Jul 2008 5:02 pm

Yes, I did manage to find a builder - no fancy showroom or website, but a string of satisfied customers and a bootload of samples to pick from. We are about to start work in 2 weeks so won't make a recommendation until the work has been completed (mid Septmber) so feel free to ask again around then...

Recommended Builder Contractor

Post by Triplenet » Mon, 25 May 2009 11:47 am

I renovated my condo a couple of years ago and went through the whole process...finally settled on a guy on my condo's recommended build list and who, conicidentally was recommended by a friend. Great result and I wasn't in Singapore for most of the construction! He did the design, GC and a lot of the finish himself. Use him for everything from AC through custom furniture. Not the cheaspest but gets it, good listener and only uses quality materials.

He also did my friends (who is a professional in the construction industry and a tough client) cluster house...with similar great results & accolades.

My cousin is an interior designer and did her own design work and used this HDB contractor, she said he was very good and reasonably priced. Ah Qi - 9857 3807.

Completed work

Post by dbenne22 » Wed, 27 May 2009 11:17 am

The work was completed around 6 months ago and I thought I should post a recommendation:

Patrick Chua
9424 4047

Patrick was easy to deal with, reasonably priced and very accommodating when it came to changes through the job.

My only criticism is that some of the paint finishes leave something to be desired so my advice is leave yourselves a few extra days and be very picky at the end !
