Insurance Options and Advice

Post by nkuehlth » Tue, 01 Apr 2008 7:29 am

Hello all.

I am a recent university graduate, and I am currently looking to relocate and begin a career in Singapore. I was wondering what advice some of you have on health/apartment/misc insurance while in Singapore.

Did many of you find insurance options in Singapore, or did you use an insurance company back in your home country?

Are there any recommended insurance options for expatriates residing in Singapore?

Any other information will be helpful.

Thanks,
Nathan

Insurance Options and Advice

Post by SeanTan » Sat, 05 Apr 2008 8:43 pm

Hi Nathan,

Welcome to Singapore. I am Sean. I have friends with the same situation as you. My suggestion is to get a medical insurance from Singapore so that you are financially protected against the high medical expenses here. Getting Medical insurance outside Singapore is not advisable as it may not cover your medical expenses in Singapore hospitals. Hope my suggestion is useful to you.

Have you reach Singapore ?

No I have not reached Singapore yet. I am still on the job hunt, and researching options on a variety of things from insurance to banking.

Health and Medical cost in Singapore is quite high, so it was alway wise to have insurance protection on Medical cost in Singapore.

Most of the sales job in Singapore required you to have certain level of experience, it might be tough for you. It will be good if you can secure a job before you decide to move over.... As the rental rate in Singapore is not cheap too.

Hope it help!

there should be some insurance in your country covering you globally, depending on the terms and condition. but it may be troublesome to make claim back to your home country where you are in singapore.

depends on the pass you hold in singapore, there are various insurance options for you to consider.

Medical and Auto Insurance Costs Annually

Post by cruss » Tue, 29 Jul 2008 11:00 pm

Can anyone tell me what the medical insurance coverage might cost for a family of 4 with two kids under 8 years of age?

How about auto insurance costs too? Thanks a ton!

Hi Cruss, regarding your query, a basic medical coverage for a family like yours could cost around the range of S$3k to S$4k++ annually.
I have an Indonesian colleage who opted for a higher-end medical coverage for his family and is currently spending about $6k+ a year.
Hope this is informative.
As for motor insurance it is really subjective, depending on the make & model, age of youngest driver, driving experience and a lot of other criteria. An average gauge would be from $1k to $2k.

Cheers!

Hi cruss,

I know of someone who is providing very comprehensive medical insurance for individual or family :D . It covers the bills in the Private hospital for the consultaion, in the hospital stay (surgery / no surgery), the follow up check up. All Covered!!! i'm quite amazed too.

I'm only paying $1 a day. Hospital 100% covered. Oversea treatment too.

I have cheked for you a Family of 4. Around $1200 a year for your whole family. Eugenia may get you a fantastic and cost saving plan for you. No worrys. She do a good job.

Cruss you may Call Eugenia at 92478500.

All the Best
