General Question

Post by pault » Fri, 28 Mar 2008 6:30 pm

Hello everyone,

I m currently in the early stages of planning a move to Singapore. I am hoping to go with my current employer in the next year or so.

I am employed as a partner manager forsubcontract services in Emerging markets and hope to do something similar for the APAC markets. I am at a senior manager level and my UK salary is around £80k basic + 35-40% bonus + car etc .

My question is what is a realistic salary for my kind of level in Singapore. What kind of salary would allow a good standard of living and allow for me to do some personal travel in the region (one of the drivers for me to come out there)

Any guidance is appreciated

thanks

I guess you need to expand a little on the
for subcontract services in Emerging markets
It says very little really! Well if you can pull the same money here, you will be living the high life, without a doubt! Should fit in well with the casino life!

thanks for the input KSL

Subcontract services are advanced networking services that we frequently subcontract ratehr than perform ourslelves. i was responsible for designing the overall programme for services and partner management. I currently run this programme for middle east, latam, russia, east europe and africa.

my previous background was in sourcing - in a sense this is an extention of that but much more in the front end of the business and more about relationship management

Another question I had was in relation to SE Asia travel - one of the drivers for me to come out to the region is to see more of SE asia - Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam,Laos etc - is this a reality do you think i.e do people generally do this or do they tend to stay in Singapore ?

thanks for any guidance

You dont really have to bother if majority of Singapore stay on the island, or do they travel out. I think what is more important is, what you want. If you want to travel, just book yourself on a vacation, and go.

i travel every month or alternate month, for leisure, not work. End of the day, it all boils down to how independent are you (must you travel with someone or you are fine traveling alone), and how much effort you want to put in planning your vacations. Singapore is very well-connected, with a credit card, you can book a vacation very quickly, and easily.

There are many I belive that take the opportunity to travel, while they can, from Singapore, so I don't think it will be so difficult to hitch up, with companions..

Although to fly on some of the planes out here, is probably like rolling the dice! There are one or two, i wouldn't fly with....best to do the research, to live longer, better still stay on the ground.....Can you tell i hate flying  Well its not so much the flying....its all the cost cutting, that worries me.

Although i pay the extra $ just to feel safer, there are no guarantees are there.
