General info required please

Post by Kryptos » Thu, 27 Mar 2008 6:21 pm

Hi.

I currently live in South Africa and we visted Singapore about two weeks ago and fell in love with the country.

So now we are investigating moving there.

However, I would like to read up on the general information required to get a more balanced view of Singapore.

I would like to know pros and cons about living there as well as what is required to move to Singapore and what the general cost of living would be.

Also what the quality of life is like in terms of working hours, salaries etc.

I have taken note of the sticky threads and will browse through them but if anyone can either provide some information or point me to other threads and/or URLs it would be much appreciated.

So far Singapore seems like heaven next to South Africa. The fact that we could sit in a public park (the Chinese Gardens) at night without fearing for our lives was something that South Africans have not experienced in the last decade or so.

Thanks in advance

:D

The easiest way is to use our search function. It works a treat and it's the same thing that we have to do. Additionally, type Singapore into Wikipedia, there is tons on info there and and also do the same for wikitravel. Additionally, see my links page located in my signature below. Tons of local links about most any/everything Singapore.

Hi,

I like Singapore - it's clean, green, safe, very efficient, and a great base for travelling around the region. It does tend to get a bit boring, if you don't make an active effort to find stuff to do.

One of the first steps is usually lining up a job, because you'll generally need an employer to sponsor you in order to get your papers sorted out.

I am not sure how the cost of living compares to SA, and of course no matter where you are, your cost of living can vary a lot depending on your lifestyle.

One of the Indian bloggers has a good post with basic cost of living calculations, for a relatively simple lifestyle:

Good luck!
