Gifts for newborn back home

Post by bub » Sun, 23 Mar 2008 10:31 pm

Hi,

Good friends of ours are expecting their first child, and we'd like to send them a gift. Any ideas for some kind of traditional regional special toy or gift?

Thanks!

gift vouchers are usually good as they can buy whatever they want.

You can get traditional gold baby charms from most jewellary outlets, or even a monetery traditional commemorative coin pack from the bank, which are also nice collection pieces for new borns

Durain- Thanks, of course we'll be getting them gift vouchers, we'd just like to add something personal and unique.
What did kids use to play with around here before plastic was invented?

There is a local artist Mariann Johansen Ellis who does these paintings/drawings of elephants and animals (http://www.bythesea-organic.com/store/i ... p?cPath=25). And she also has illustrated a collection of childrens books (check out the Sunbear Publishing website and look for her name.) I've seen the books in Borders and also in the little candle shop at Tanglin Mall on the first floor as you walk in. These might make a lovely gift since they are by a local artist and she is becoming quite well known.
Also there are some lovely children clothes at Chateau de Sable in Tanglin & Paragon.
