Graphic Designer with 12 years experience looking 4 work

Post by ukdecay » Mon, 17 Mar 2008 12:13 am

Hi all,

I'm a graphic designer with 10 years experience working in a print industry as well as 2 years experience in an agency. I'm looking to move to Singapore because my girlfriend plans to go back to Singapore to take up a degree course. I was wondering how much they pay over in SG and where are some good places online to search for graphic design work?

I have previously searched on some job sites in Singapore but most of the graphic design jobs state that "Only Singaporeans or PR need apply" and obviously I'm not.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Size of company does not matter, company's clients do. Company with international clients pay better than one with local clients.
Open your option wide; try product design companies, gaming, or household/electrical/gadgets companies like Philips, Siemens, or Singapore owned Creative. If you've never done graphic design for packaging or products, sell yourself in the way that you are confidence that you can. Being from where the clients are (I assume you are from UK), make points that you can confidently communicate with overseas and local clients and you have more exposures than locals competitors.
Designated color and material designer, and a designer whose work is defining the latest trends on color, graphic etc and come up with company's direction, are two new positions emerge within these last couples years in Singapore's product design industry.

As any other jobs, having some kind of connections (sometime) works better than applying through newspaper, so does open application.

My two cents. All the best!
