nilnuk, sorry to hear you didn't get it.
So, after the voice test and interview you didn't get it ?

Any idea when we can apply again and better prepare for the test.
I didn't clear the test and got the letter. Sent an application the second time but I didn't get any reply.

Cheers

not sure when can apply again. But if they didn't offer me the job after the interview means i am not suitable for it, there is no point doing it the 2nd time i think.

Had my ATC test on 9 June afternoon, 1st interview on 11June morning, 2nd interview on 12June morning... and orientation 16th JUNE!! :) You there as well??

I'm actually quite torn now . I have an PhD application pending and CAAS accepted me. And I heard I'll have to decide whether to take it up the next day after my orientation. Really have to make up my mind this few days!

I've been in Sing for 4 years now and have refrained from getting involved in the ATC thread because I find it the most boring and tiresome job, Although in the sphere of airline work is another matter, but even then a pilot will override the ATC if he believes that he should.

This is a pilot weakness unfortunately and rightly so, because it is his life and his passengers not yours.

I'm such an old fart now, that all I remember was a duty on maneuvers called ATC, mostly night flying for the choppers, and i used to go out to a set map ref and set up the landing aid azimuth, the traffic light for planes as i used to call it....
I have never been in the commercial side of flying so i do not know about the requirements of ATC, but i used to dread the 24 hour duties I used to do.

I recall we wasn't allowed more than 5 in circuit at one time, for planes the distance of approach must be very different to choppers, so i cannot comment....although i have felt a buzz when it was very busy, but looking back on ATC it's a bummer of a job, with not a great deal of respect from the pilots in the military, with many overriding instructions based on their own opinions, which is very dangerous.

I turned down employment at an airfield because ATC pay was not up to my expectations, it's a very stressful job, that demands alertness and dedication...for people with degrees I just do not see the point, other than satisfying a wish. Because the money is not good in my opinion.

And just to wind a few people up, would you believe that I have never had any faith in the system, because i have always been colour blind in red and green so how the F---k should i be able to do the job, which i was ordered to do, including many other jobs too for government, does it make you think?

I'm not surprised, but i did most of the jobs, that i wanted too in the military because no one else would do them, or couldn't make the grade in fact the last is most appropriate because only 1 in a hundred hundred have the ability to succeed, although one in a hundred never apply for the position, because of the dangers involved. That's why their are always vacancies for the right kind of material

Oh, so u're the "banking" guy? Oh well, just think on the bright side that u'll definitely be earning much much much more than us coz the training allowance for us is kinda pathetic. I'm now trying my best to psycho myself that money not the issue...... haha

I'm the science guy...Actually with the recent bond and hopefully salary adjustment, I think we all need to make sure we are clear on how much we are getting before and after training. Maybe we can collectively ask them on tues to be clear for our consideration? Or hopefully they will tell us =)
I think this thread is really good as it serves as good reminder to not get into any job for the money but for the love of the job.

The orientation 845am right?

KSL: Thanks for the input... Well I do believe that working in the military does make the same job 10x worse.. And 24 hours duties?!?!? That is absurd! But mayb the military was really no welfare at your time ba.. I spoke to the interviewers the job timing and its like 8hour shift with a 10-20min break every break every 2 hours. So hopefully the civil side would be better.

Just saw that Nintendo DS has a game called "Air traffic controller by DS".. Haha.. My friend's friend's who is an ATC in the military says its quite similar except on a much smaller scale.
