10 years full time work - but no Degree..

Post by mrwalker » Tue, 04 Mar 2008 3:02 pm

Hi everyone,

My de-facto spouse is Singaporean, and she has been living here with me under a de-facto permanent resident visa in Australia for 4 years now.

We are now thinking of moving over to singapore to live for a while.

My spouse has a Masters Degree so will have no worry of finding a job im sure, but I was too busy concentrating on my job to take time out to obtain a degree!

As soon as I finished high school, I entered into a Government job and have progressed up the ranks in the Government for the last 10.5 years. I recently obtained a Diploma of Government (Contract Management) from a fully accredited training course, but it was not from a uni. Does that matter?

My wage here is A$58,000pa - ie $4833/month.

My question is - Will it be extremely hard for me to find a decent paid office job in Singapore?

I have been involved in many different areas of Government here such as Policy Creation, Service Delivery, and Audit & Compliance.

Im assuming as I am not a Singapore citizen I cant work for the government there?

Any advice or help would be much appreciated - thankyou!!

I'm doing compliance in a bank. You mentioned you are involved in audit & compliance, maybe you can try for a compliance related job in a bank. With all the bad publicity on sub-prime, and bank losses, most bank are tightening on their controls and compliance areas, so there are quite a fair bit of compliance positions around.

Of course, a lot depends on how relevant your past experience are, I think you can consider working for a bank. Generally, their benefits are reasonably good as well. I also know quite a few foreigners who works in a bank and do not possess a degree.

If you are keen, you can PM me and I can give you the name of a couple of recruitment agencies that specialise in recruiting compliance specialist.
