Gynaecologist

Post by BDIAS » Mon, 03 Mar 2008 9:02 pm

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me find a great gynaecologist that is a woman. I have moved here from the U.S. and would like to find someone that would be similar to the care I received over there. I would like to have a second child , and may have one while we are in Singapore. I had a c-section with my first, so I would want someone that has experience with c-sections as I would probably have to have another if I have another child.

i absolutely LOVED the doctor i had here in singapore who delivered my second child. she has since delivered for 2 friends (expats) - one cesarean, one natural and is also consulting a 3rd friend of mine due in september. she has such a lovely disposition and i couldn't recommend her highly enough:

Brenda Low
#03-01, Gleneagles Medical Center
Tel: +65.6734.7340

good luck!

Thanks, I will give her a call and see if she is taking new patients at the time. Did you deliver at Gleneagles Hospital then if her office is in the medical center? If you delivered there how was the care at the hospital?

yes - i delivered at gleneagles and her practice is at gleneagles medical center (next door) - but i think she is able to deliver elsewhere. i wouldn't say i was blown away by gleneagles - but the nursing staff was very efficient and it is a very convenient hospital to get to. i have a friend who is at Mt E right now for 3 weeks and going to visit her is always a nightmare - it's so big and confusing (for me). i have since been back to gleneagles when my daughter was in the hospital for 5 days and again the nursing staff was excellent and i really felt like everything was very efficient (from checking in to settling our bill...etc.) i booked a single standard room and it was fine - but you can book a deluxe room which has a refrigerator, dvd player and a pull out couch. the maternity package prices are very similar for gleneagles, mount elizabeth & thompson so for me gleneagles was the best as it was the closest.
the waiting room at dr lows office is not similar to that in the US - it's all very basic (meaning - not glossy) - but they do have all the latest technology - so you don't have to be booked into the hospital for your scans. that is one of the biggest bonuses about having a baby in asia - you don't have to wait so long to scan! i also did a consult with 2 other high profile doctors here in singapore but in the end i went with the doctor who i felt most 'connected' with.

Looking for a very good Gleneagles Gynae

Post by harshv » Fri, 11 Jul 2008 10:51 am

Hi,
Had my first child at Mt. Alvernia. Great privacy and staff. However, I did not build a very close "bond" with my gynae. She was a little "dry" and I always felt that my questions were only half answered. However, the delivery of my first child and all went well.
We would like to have another child, but I decided to change my gynae and heard a lot about good gynaes at Gleneagles, however, nobody in particular.
I am looking for a top notch gynae with highly developed interepersonal skills. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks.

glad to see this good review of dr low, i made an appt with her this morning to see her on thur, before i saw this reivew.

i moved from the US last may when i was 28w pg. went with a high profile ob at mt e (saw her once before in feb when we were here for a visit). she gave me a 5 min u/s, called it "detailed u/s" and charged me over $200 for it. that is not including consultation fee etc. i dont mind paying $200 if it is REALLY a detailed u/s. when i did my level II in the US, it was almost an hour, that's what i considered detail and worth paying. any way, i ended up running around looking for a new ob at 28w pg. delivered with dr joycelyn wong at thomson medical. she is very nice and warm, would have liked to go with her again for #2 but she has changed her hours to 3 days a week and getting an appt with her is hard. so now on the hunt for a new ob as we just got a surprise bfp on friday.

thomson for delivery was ok. i had a standard single room and though the room was comfy, it was old. the bathroom was clean but it looked so old that it gave me the impression that it was dirty. nurses were mostly nice and friendly. did not like the nursery staff, felt that they were very with the baby, esp when they bring the baby to me for bfing.

you'll have to post back (or PM) and tell me what you think of dr. low. best to book either the first appt of the day or the first one after lunch since she actually takes quite a bit of time with the U/S :)
i really think it's a very personal choice about the doctor since some people take to certain mannerisms and others don't.
i do have to say that in hindsight i found (certain) nursing staff at gleneagles to be a bit abrupt... but then again i had a super fast labor so wasn't the most pleasant person to be around :???:
congratulations on your pregnancy!
