Post by isabelle85 » Fri, 29 Feb 2008 12:39 am

Hello,

Is there any of your favourite local food that you guys will like to have in your own country, which cannot be found in your country? eg, Satay, chilli crabs, BBQ sliced pork, pineapple tarts, kaya with eggs? :D I am trying to compile a list for future use, please help!

1st would definitely be Chili Crab followed closely by BBQ'd Stingray
A second would be either Char Kway Teow/Mee Siam or Laksa
and thirdly would be Oyster Omelets/Murtabak.

You guys are definitely making me VERY hungry.... My favourite is actually BBQ pork slices, maybe cos Chinese New Year has just passed. :D

But all the hawker food, is it feasible to bring it back to your hometown? Perhaps you can buy those condiments (Laska sauce, chicken rice sauce etc) back, or even better still if someone do export roti prata to your country. Do you think you guys will buy this condiments or frozen food?

I have never tried those condiments before since in Singapore there is no lack of my favourite food :D , but I guess when I stay overseas in a few months time, I will definitely buy them.

They have roti here but is is so very different. I did buy lots of frozen roti last time I was in Malaysia but it's not the same.

Ah, the banana leaf restaurants. :? I miss Singapore

The only thing I do miss about Singapore, seriously: Its food.

Nasi Padang anytime.

Beef rendang, sambal goreng, biryani rice.

I love the Mongolian Barbeque here although it's not typically what you'd call local food. That, anyway, is difficult to find around the world.

.....on a Sunday morning at Tekka washed down with ginger tea. Satay and egg fried rice accompanied by a few beers (Sunday morning also can!). I lost count of how many t-shirts I ruined by dropping greasy peanut sauce down the front.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion

There's a couple of good ones but i head to Clarke Quay, next to the fountain.

But i have to say...... bull's privates sounds more authentic Mongolian than the leanest of beef, pork and lamb found here
