Any recommendation for a good and cheap PDA?

Post by SizzlingBaby » Thu, 21 Feb 2008 4:32 pm

I need a very basic PDA to plan my appointments and to organise my address book. I do not need anything too fanciful since I prefer a laptop to do my usual computing.

Any recommendation for a good old basic PDA that won't burn a hole in my pocket? I will be interested in getting a used and still working (well) device, if any.

a good old pda for just address and contact could be the palm III, IV or Vx. they are old but very small and lightweight. easily fit in your shirt pocket. unfortunately, i dont know if there anymore around.

we used to use it but now they are all in the bin as we moved to blackberry. if you are still interested in the palm Vx, i can looking around in the office.

Durian,

Please help me find one which has yet gone to the bin. I believe in recyling good stuff. Much appreciated.

SizzlingBaby

i looked everywhere for the darn cable and psu. the palm vx would be useless without them. to make matter worst, i found TWO palm vx!!!

i got some old blackberry 7230/7290/8700 with cables, battery, etc. thinking you could use it to sync your address book and calendar but unfortunately they are SP locked!

sorry to let you down...

Hi Durain..

Thanks so much. I hope it will not inconvenient you too much. I am never in a hurry. I just want to get a simple device to help organise my stuff.

This is embarassing.. But i use the most conventional ways to keep my contact details.. Outlook, Google Spreadsheet and simply filing the namecards!... hehehe...

ok, you got 3 choice...

1. a palm vx (or even 2 if you want a spare), but no cable and power supply. battery status is unknown.

2. a blackberry 6230 with cable and good battery life. cable will do data and charge the battery via USB, but it is network locked and no sure if you can download the blackberry desktop manager software and sync your stuff over the cable. i have been told it is possible but havent tried it myself. if you get the blackberry network unlock, you can put in your mobile sim and use the blackberry as a fone too.

3. buy a cheapo pda.

Should be able to pick the cables up at the scrap yard in Sim Lim, much of the old stuff is collected and shipped to 3rd world, worth a try! You should see the old stuff collecting dust, around the back out of site of all the shoppers..

Hello Durain.

Thanks again.

Option 2 is most attractive but too many uncertainties. I'll take ksl's suggestion and go try see if I can get the cables for the Palm at Sim Lim. If yes, I will get the Palm from you.

:)

in my determination to find the cable, in the name of recycling, i found the PSU (power supply unit). you will still need the cable to connect the palm to the PC. btw, it is a serial cable, so i hope your PC will have the serial port for it. i will ransack the office during the weekend. :)

p/s the blackberry is actually a 7230.
