Experiencing some sort of dilemma here and wonder if anyone can give me their 2 cents' worth. Am still undecided if I should go for the interview - I was flying a few years back and after leaving, I have gotten a job I like pretty much with a very decent pay, and just received a promotion last week (had absolutely NO idea it was coming). Applied to BA as I do miss my flying days quite a bit (not a routine 9-6 job) and the familiar feeling of job satisfaction when I complete a flight with happy pax. That said, assuming i do get thru in the end, I wonder if it's worth uprooting all that I've built to date.
Furthermore, the flying now will be somewhat routine since there are only 3 routes. I understand tt gg for the interview could just be keeping my options open as I might not even get past the 1st round, but there is time involved in taking leave (including future rounds if I do get thru) amidst rather busy work weeks ahead planning for a regional event.
Any advice, anyone?

Probably not, you have established yourself in whatever industry you are in and your experiences whatever they are will count towards your future should you be unfortunate enough to one day be made redundant. Being in the airlines will give you customer service experience to augment what you already have but do you really want this? I cannot compare your current position as you don't specify.figment wrote: That said, assuming i do get thru in the end, I wonder if it's worth uprooting all that I've built to date.
I think the simplest thing would be to simply sit down with a piece of paper and write the pros and cons of both jobs and try to consider future implications. The future of course is difficult to consider as economies and political situations can and do change unexpectedly.

figment, if you have stopped flying and juz miss it now thus hoping to join BA - it might not be that good a job to take up.
as you have said earlier, you worked hard for what you have now - your standing in the co., your knowledge of this industry you are presently in..
i do agree with plavt that you might wanna take some time to write the pros and cons on a piece of paper and see from there where it leads you to.. mayb you might also wanna add in to tink of where you would see yourself in another 2 - 3 yrs time..
in these days.. promotions are hard to come by even with lotsa hard work.. i believe you have proven yourself to the Co. to be worthy of the promotion..
i too understand the happiness of seeing a happy pax(pax for u and customer for me).. being in the cust service line brings lotsa unhappiness & yet at the end of the day you would feel great cuz you managed to at least make 1 person happy and knowing that they do appreciate it..
routine is smth we all muz go thru.. mundane and routine - that is wad life is suppose to sadly be about regarding work..

juz my 2 cents worth..
*gambatte nei!*

hmmm... seriously u still have like 10 days to think?
or do u need to call them and confirm ur attendance?
just maybe put in this wae..
down the road... which job will u think will gif u more future and u are happier with that?
i mean for mi...
last time i work in a bank...
i like the people there alot... my relationship with them are superb... they dote on mi alot cause i'm the youngest there..
they think i can work... but the boss pay mi too little...
so i decided to go and find another job... in the end i got the job and they pay me much higher...
so i left and cry like hell on my last dae there... and suddenly i regret like hell...
i can tell u... i still regret... but i got no choice... i cant go back for the time being cause my boss might look down on mi... u see..
so i realli suggest that u think properly... dun be like mi...
if i can choose again... i will stay on despite the money that they pay mi..

Thanks Plavt , Pamie and jiahuipiggy, for your very insightful replies
I guess you're all right, I should scrawl out a list of pros and cons and determine which would point me in a better direction for the long haul. Customer service and soft skills will augment me to a certain extent but I have to ask myself if this value-add is enough to offset my opportunity cost. For all I know, assuming I'm really made redundant in future, I wonder if I can get back into the same industry (I'm in Marcomms) with the same footing in future (with the absence of a few years spent flying).
Shall wean these into my thoughts and seriously take some time to think it over. Thanks once again for the inputs, folks!

hm... then again in marcomms the world is always changing.. if you realli do get into BA.. you'll still have to find out about the latest news and even the chance to gain more insights wrt marcomm from the 3 different countries you would fly to..figment wrote:Thanks Plavt , Pamie and jiahuipiggy, for your very insightful repliesI guess you're all right, I should scrawl out a list of pros and cons and determine which would point me in a better direction for the long haul.
