FIRST, DO NO HARM...

Post by taxico » Sun, 25 May 2008 7:17 pm

i wouldn't recommend a homeopath in singapore, because it's an unregulated industry (last i know of).

i know many people believe in alternative treatments, but since you're now in singapore, i can only recommend you check out a qualified eastern/chinese TCM physician instead.

my personal take on this is: medications i prescribe to my wife for a persistent ailment didn't help much in the long run (i'm an allopathic physician - so i treat whatever symtoms the body has). she now goes to a singapore TCM physician and feels it's a lot better now.

my sister had traditional medications and remedies over the course of almost 10 years that rid her of chronic asthma. so i won't say it doesn't work or might just be in the patient's head.

my professional take on this is: sometimes, you need to take a few before finding a suitable course of treatment. i recommend you try out a qualified OSTEOPATH either back home or in singapore (I'm unsure if any DOs are there).

look out for their DO qualifications - they ought to be recognized by the AMA. they will be able to help treat your child through helping you and your child adopt various preventive steps.

if you feel that western medicine is still unable to cure the problem and the problem is one without a real cure, i would encourage seeking alternative remedies.

but in my experience, most of the time patients simply have not found a doctor who is able to thoroughly diagnose the problem (fo a variety of reasons).

don't give up yet.

i'm glad you're taking steps to help your child, but be careful what unlicensed/unregulated homeopaths make your kid ingest.

SIDEBAR ALERT!!! SIDEBAR ALERT!!!

eastern medications are a VERY bitter pill to swallow. literally, and may cost as much as a normal doctor and drugstore visit.

the medicine such persons prescribe often work at a level similar to western medications, just with variations. whatever benefits alternative treatments yield for a patient can be emulated with western medicine.

but a physician's first rule is to DO NO HARM and we generally will not prescribe various remedies that we think or are told by the patients that will be beneficial for the problem.

for eg, not all oncologists will prescribe marijuana to alleviate pain. there are other considerations physicians have to take into consideration for each patient's course of action.

alternative "cures" may be had through experimentation - granted these may actually be beneficial for various conditions and may be even adopted by western physicians through research by pharmaceutical companies or medical institutions. until that happens, doctors have to DO NO HARM.

lastly, like their MD counterparts, not all TCM physicians are good. some are there to make a quick buck. poke around your neighborhood "aunties" or "uncles" - they're good at that!

Dear Thesicks13,

I would like to ask you about your daughter's visit to the naturopathic clinic. Will this be ok?

dear all,

I happened to see this link, when I typed 'homeopathy' in a search engine to seek help for my family member - my furry dog.

here's my piece of advise.

In Singapore, for alternative medication, the best at present, is TCM.
Next in line would be herbs.

homeopathy is almost never heard of by most people, and it means, it's a very new industry within Singapore.

If you're seeking homeopathy help from cuontries whereby there's been a stable number of years with good records, then it's worth considering.
If not, i would advise other alternatives.

on the other hand, treating special needs children, is quite a new trend in Singapore. Almost every classroom today, has one or 2 children, with special needs. The gov might have noticed this and been placing some pressure onto making sure this method works for special needs children.
So who knows, homeopathy might help them.

going to a western doctor, would mean supressing whatever problems there are until the next outbreak which would be worse than the previous round.

going to the TCM will mean to stamp out the root of the cause - provided you've gone to the correct TCM doctor.
If you go to the wrong one, the worse scenario for one who had injuries - will end up being paralyse (though I've heard of none happening in Singapore so far.)

hope my little opinion helps abit.

For what it's worth, homeopathy is not quackery!!

My husband and I have both been treated by a homeopath. Actually, she is a homeopath/naturopath/psychologist/pathologist so she is very very knowledgeable on a range of subjects.

My husband had a debilitating and incredibly itchy rash all over his body. It came up over the course of a few weeks and got so bad that he was embarrassed to go out in public. It was all over his legs, his hands, his feet, his arms, his neck, his face - it was so awful. He saw many doctors over the course of many weeks and they kept recommending the same thing - steroid creams! These things are poisonous and just make the problem worse! In desperation, he went and saw this lady, who also happens to be the wife of a friend, and she recommended a whole heap of vitamins and supplements, as well as reprogramming his mind-set. She talked to him for many hours, covering the emotions that came with finding out our 4 year old son was dying to missing his brother's wedding. There were many things that she talked to him about. By the time he left her home, he had stopped itching. Within 2 weeks of taking the vitamins and supplements and remedies, the rash had totally disappeared.

I also went to see her. I had just had my 4th miscarriage in 8 months and was devastated. I had been to the OB/GYN and had all the tests to work out what was wrong and they could find nothing. I went to see this lady and she talked to me for hours. I did lots of crying and screaming and got all the bad energy out of my body, energy that was destroying anything that was trying to be created in my body. Within 4 weeks I was pregnant, and I now have a 7-month old baby girl. I saw her all the way through my pregnancy. I even started bleeding around the 6-week mark (exactly like my other 4 miscarriages) and she gave me remedies that warded off the miscarriage. She gave me loads of vitamins and supplements and I too had to change my mindset.

I am a believer. If I don't believe in some of the things that she tries then I tell her - she is not offended and finds some other way to help me. To me, she is a "gypsy" but she has made us feel so much better physically, emotionally and mentally - she is a big believer of the book "The Secret" and the power of positive thinking. My 4 year old son has a terminal disease and she is treating him. He is doing so well and you wouldn't even know he is so sick. Eventually, the disease will catch up with him but at least he has a wonderful quality of life NOW.

DOn't shut people down if they believe in these things. Do you believe in God? I don't - he is an imaginary friend for grownups, but I would never bully someone into not believing, the way that some of you (one person especially) has bullied the OP and others who believe in the power of alternative medicine. Keep your opinion to yourself if you have nothing good to say and let others deal with their problems their way. No one likes a bully!

Indeed alternate medication is coming up quick and fast in the country.

All I can say is - if you find the correct doctor/homeopath etc, then yes. It will help.
If you find a wrong one, then no matter how many times you go, it'll be the same.

For example, once, I coughed for 6 months to 8 months.
During this period, I went to 12 different western doctors and 1 chinese doctor.
Out of the 12 western doctors, most of them, I went to them twice or thrice.
But none helped me. Neither did the chinese doctor.

Finally, I went back to the first doctor, whom I saw. But she went overseas after that so i didn't get to see her, until months later. Explained to her everything, and she diagnosed as bloated tummy with too much of gas that caused flam to produce so cough.
Finally she managed to cure me.
And... she has both the knowledge of western and chinese medication. Hers was a combined theory.

If I remember correctly, the good thing about homeopath is that, there's no side effects to it and it's harmless even if failed. So it's still worth a try. Only thing is - Singapore's really quite new in that, most people have not heard of this yet, so the practice might be be very in depth yet.

Even in Ma Guang, there're many different doctors who use different methods.

I personally recommend this doctor in Ma Guang which is located opposite Marsiling MRT.

But the process is long, tedious and painful.
(At least for me. Because mine is about whole body in severe pain due to work stress and injuries).

I have a colleague who goes to Eu Yang Seng for the past 5 years. Her body's condition is weak and it takes a long time for TCM to work.
The only good thing is - TCM really cures to the root.

However, sometimes it takes years to cure.

This doctor will also extend one advise - swimming.
ok. Maybe coz swimming helped me alot for my case.

It seems like you need a DAN(Defeat Autism Now) doctor. They treat and have fully recovered vaccine injured kids with labels such as Autism/ADHD/ADD etc. Their are some DAN doctors in Singapore. They use a combination of different methods like nutrition, chelation, herbs, etc. I'll list the clinics below.Go to GenerationRescue if you want to find a homeopath or any other overseas doctor.I think their are some homeopathic DAN doctors in the US, so you would have to do phone consultations.I want to emphasize that their are a lot of kids fully recovering with this protocol.Their is a new natural chelator on the market and it helping a lot of people including me.It's called OSR(Oxidative Stress Relief).

So, tell me, you homeopathic true believers...

It's very easily demonstrated that after the dilutions are done, homeopathic medicine consists of pure water. Nothing else. In other words, there is no mechanism known to science by which the potions you are paying big bucks for could do anything.

Maybe, just maybe, there is some supernatural or magical way in which homeopathic medicines do their thing. But there have been countless scientific studies comparing the effect of homeopathic medicine with placebos, and none of them have shown any difference between the two.

But no, this doesn't convince you. Why not? Too many big words? Wounded pride after spending so much money on snake oil? The moderator is a smarmy git so you disagree with him on principle? :???:
