relocation companies
Hello, I'm new to this forum. We will be moving to Sinagpore this June/July. We are not having a positive experience with our relo company. Do we really need one? Any advice, please. Thanks.
What is the job scope of your relocation company? To find schools and accomodation..?

relo companies
Thanks for the reply. The relo company we have does it all. Are there better companies than others?
What I would really like to know is - do you really need one to rent? Can I contact owners directly?
My relo company has been no help and even made things worst.
Thank you.

Relocation companies
You don't actually need a relocation company since most can be done on your own. At the end of the day, they would still liaise with agents on co-ordination of paperwork, handovers, therefore, going direct to agents would save you involvement of one party.

Re: relo companies
You need a property agent to rent, not necessarily a relocation company. Relocation companies are there to help you with the move, the transition, to flatten out the learning curve a bit. They can also supply background information that a real estate agent may not know, or won't share. In the best case scenario, it's like having a friend who lives here, who can give you all kinds of answers to questions (even those not related to accommodations). How do I write a check? How will my child get to school? Why is this apartment so cheap? Why do we want a corporate lease? Where can I play tennis? What season of Grey's Anatomy is on TV?If your relocation company isn't doing this, then you need a new one.ca_momof3 wrote:Thanks for the reply. The relo company we have does it all. Back when Singapore was considered a hardship posting, relocation companies were hired to ensure some level of success for the new people moving in, now it's a little easier to settle on your own, but a good relocation company is still a valuable asset.

Use them to show you around places and draw the line there. I visited a number of properties with them but also used regular agents as well. When the same properties came up, the price with the regular agent was cheaper. My thinking was the landlord knew any intro from a relo agent was more than likely on a package and therefore bumps the price up - I experienced this on more than one occassion.
These relo agents use the same agents that are on the street, they then co-broke the commission. When you visit a palce, you will be there with the relo agent and also another agent (the vendors) - that agent knows the relo agent and will quote a higher price to them than if you were to call them direct.
Avoid like the palgue...
