I have 3 children, daughter will have finished grade 5, son who will be 5 in September, and one 20 month old toddler. Daughter is in top 99% of students in the USA, very smart and in accelerated subjects in her school, can anyone advise? She is based in the CORE learning at a charter school here and has had enourmous success. Am looking for an education that is challenging for her and for our son as well. This will also determine where we live, etc. Any/ all suggestions are helpful as I am just starting the process. Also, what is the cost to send a child to a private school in Singapore? Much appreciated.
Aaahhh...
You must be from Lake Wobegone where "All the women are strong, all the men good looking and all the children are above average".
Truth is, even if you put your children's name on the list right now at SAS and UWC (where they won't get in until they expand) they probably won't get in for the start of the 2008 academic year. You might have some luck at OFS, ERIS or CIS, but until the new campuses are built, most schools are at capacity. Academically,
International Schools here tend to cater to the middle part of the bell curve-- there are not a lot of services for the highly gifted and profoundly learning disabled kids. A child who scores in the upper 90s of an Iowa test however, would have no problem.
Click on the link given at the bottom of Sundaymorningstaple's posts and investigate each school's website for pricing, student profiles, admissions policies, etc. If your move to Singapore is not intended to be a permanent or long term one, then you better stick to the curriculum of your next posting. In other words, if your likely to end up in London, consider the Tanglin Trust School or if you'll most likely head back in the US -- then SAS is probably the right choice.
Good luck, I don't envy your situation -- but it will all work out like these things usually do, with lots of hard work and some blood, sweat and tears thrown in for good measure.
