Hi- I hold a DP too and was planning on working on contract/project basis with my previous employer in the US. They don't have an office over here and my clients would be in the US. Do I still need to have a LOC or some other permission to work in Singapore?
Someone mentioned to me that I do need an EP or something but I can't find much more information. Perhaps because I'm assuming that when applying for LOC/ EP's etc, you're wanting to work for a Singaporian company.
Thanks for any clarification you all can provide. It looks like from this thread it wouldn't hurt for me to apply for a LOC.

PhoenixT,
There are special arrangement for Business Representative of foreign companies. I'm not real sure of the in & outs of it, but a search of the MOM website might help (you can find the link in my signature links or the index/home page of this url using the tab
Expat Guides.

Hi,
I have read a thread with the same subject and I am just wondering if any of you (DP holders) have found a job here in Singapore. I am a Filipina and I used to work at a call center in the Philippines. When my husband moved here, I decided to quit my job hoping that I would get the same or hopefully better paying job here in Singapore. But it has been almost a year now and I'm about to lose hope!
Comments and/or suggestions are highly appreciated!
Thanks!
Prez

Hi Prez,
My new housemate who's on DP got a job here in Singapore. She made sure she had the letter of consent. Did you already have your LOC before you went applying for jobs?

Hi there,
Nope, I don't have a LOC yet. I should get one soon, right? What does your housemate do now? Where is she from?
Thanks!

You have it backwards. You find a job and the employer applies for the letter of consent. Should normally be granted unless you are in a non-entrepreneurial activity like massage, karaoke, and such.

Hi All,
Does the same apply to LTVP holder also ? Actually my wife is holding LTVP(Long Term Visit Pass) and unable find job for past 6 months, she is just a house wife now. She has more than 8 yrs of work experience in admin/clerical and data entry job but wherever she tries she gets nothing.. Could it be due to Work pass thing ? I guess she has quite decent work experience...

You cannot work on an LTVP. She needs an employment pass or a DP.

By the DP's future employer. They are asking MOM for consent to employ the DP... usually always granted unless a massage parlor, hair dresser, karaoke, etc.

Don't tell the employer you are not a DP holder until you get to the interview stage. But before you do that, please visit the MOM website and learn all you can about Dependent Passes and "Letter of Consent". Once you are familiar with the ins and out of the "letter of consent" you will have to 'teach' the potential employer how easy it is and the fact that it will not go against any foreign worker quotas not are their any levies or employer Cpf to pay. The only downside is that your letter of consent is tied to your spouses EP as far as the expiry and renewal dates.
However, it you show your mettle and prove valuable to the employer then they might apply for an EP in your own right. This would then free up the link between your spouse and his EP.
