Prenatal Yoga - good or bad?

Hi, just like to add my input to this discussion. I have been teaching prenatal yoga for the past six years in Singapore and can honestly say it is extremely beneficial for the pregnant Mum, especially in the last few weeks. It helps to heal and prevent back pain, strengthens the legs and puts Mums mind at ease. Deep relaxation helps to de-stress the mind and make the whole experience of pregnancy a privilege to be cherished. Colleen

It's so wonderful that you already have a yoga practice as you are trying to conceive! Since your muscles are already strong, labor will be easier and you're body will bounce back faster (a regular yoga practice tones your muscles all over, giving them the strength and energy to go back to normal, post-baby).

Focus on core strength, the Mula Bandha root lock, Pranayama, and meditation with your prenatal yoga. A strong core keeps you from slouching and when you add the weight of a baby, bad posture can lead to serious pain. Mula Bandha strengthens the pelvic floor muscle (strong muscles are more flexible!).

Best of luck!

Hi, just joining in the chat again. Recently, some of my pregnant students went on leave and missed their yoga classes. On their return, they complained about feeling stiff and uncomfortable, blaming their increased girth. However, after just one or two prenatal yoga classes, they reported feeling so much better, less backache and more flexibility- guess proof, as always, is in the pudding :) Colleen
