How to set up an online business

Post by lctang » Wed, 09 Jan 2008 2:30 pm

Hi all, I am interested in setting up an online business but don't know to start it. I would like to sell original second hand games either PSP or Nintendo online.

Can someone tell me how to go about setting the online website and where to find the distributors for these games?

Thanks

without wishing to sound rude you want us to tell you how to set up your business.

What shares do we get? 50%!!

maybe the first thing to do is some research, search the net and find distributors, web designers etc etc.
Don't p*ss me off! I am running out of places to hide the bodies.

If anyone has a similar business model I may consider joining in a 50 50 partnership. I don't mind to be rude either but if you do have such a business and wanted to join in or sell half of your business to me then you may get your 50% share.

I am just trying to get some good advice or guidance from some experience businessman/ woman out there.

Ictang,
All very well wanting to set up an online business but before you do that you need to become known and make it known what services, products etc you are offering.

Think about it, there are so many websites around that trying to start online without a good marketing strategy away from the web will likely fail.

Ictang, you are looking to sell second hand games online, but you also want distributors? What benefits are you offering? You don't have to tell me the suppliers, but you know the price must be significantly better, than purchasing second hand offline?

I could guide you in the right direction, although you need to PM me with some idea of your price, for me to evaluate....if you are thinking of selling in Singapore online too, they will not pay by card. You will have to arrange them to collect.

Although global sales, you will have to work out the costs of paypal and the website setup, I would suggest setting up in an established online shopping mall...there are quite a few costs involved, like postage abroad, packaging ect.

It can be done if the price is right, specially in the game industry, but competition is hard going, although you could also place an advert in the paper too, to get your web noticed locally, building a loyal customer base is important and you can only do it, with excellent service and good price, you need maybe something to compliment the service, maybe online game competition too, or quiz, with a monthly prize, for members!

Actually I give free advice to start ups, and I am a qualified consultant, you can ask the wife

Your idea is okay, but you need quite a bit of work to do first, some desk research to see if the idea, is feasible, many game sellers, also do exchange or trade in too, its all down to planning, after you have concluded it will work.

If you are wanting just to earn money, how about a car salesman, I know an easy way to generate cash, with no cash layout, its very simple! Anyone else can pay for the idea :P

This also works in the UK too Plavt! You will always have money in your pocket, and never pay any out, although the passion to sell and work needs to be in the heart, my own school mate lived this way for many years...he's now a multi millionair, best in the trade, with his own garage and petrol station...knows nothing else and afraid to try...and you know what, he's been left 5 wills in the last couple of years, from some of his clients...That's what honest reliable trading does, for you, with good service....every time I go home, I see his clients popping in the garage, more for a chat and a brew in their old age. Talk about money growing on trees!

I thought it was an old age, health care meeting I was falling into

there are plenty of companies in singapore able to work on this kind of project but I must say that I ended up doing my website myself because it's pretty expensive to outsource such things. I jsut outsourced the logo as I don't know how to use Illustrator and I don't draw...

just google and you'll find them very easily.

Yes you have to register a company or a business with ACRA.

1) i dont think you need to setup an online busines on that. just go to classifieds section of any forum then advertise will do

2) if you still want to setup, create your own blog. it is free and market your blog. for a start, dont even need to buy a domain name so at least you keep your cost low

hope that helps

Like I said, competition is a very healthy creative way of life...it doesn't matter at all, how many car salesmen, their are, in fact the more, there are, the more money I can make? Becuase what it's about, is being creative and better, than the rest, to turn over sales! and I have just the formula, although ones reputation, needs to be branded. Which takes 98% of the car salesmen out of the equation!

if u are thinking of globally , shipping cost is high, unless u got a trust worthy distributer based somewhere else. again SEO requires a lot of time and effort to learn. i suggest u try out ebay. If u like to operate locally try yahoo auctions or mocca is offering free advertisements.

instead of selling think about sevice side like tutors, cleaning etc
