can no longer use webmail

Post by cafecafe » Mon, 07 Jan 2008 7:13 pm

Remote host said: 554 The message was rejected because it contains prohibited virus or spam content.

Does anyone know what this means and how this problem can be resolved, especially since I have done several scans and the emails I send out never contain any spam?

I receive incoming mail via webmail OK but I cannot send out.

Thanks

You probably need to configure your webmail correctly for sending on the webmail server, I presume you have access through some form of control panel to the webmail service, there should be a tutorial or a help folder you can use to troubleshoot the 554 error, it just isn't set up correctly! Let me know your remote host and I may be able to help you out further! I use Ipower and bluehost....I guess you are trying to send through outlook? If so you need to get the remote host to configure for outlook before you can send from it via the remote host, should be able to do this from your webmail console were you set up the accounts.

was it working before? was anything changed? did you change your ISP? are you using it on a different PC?

usually, for outgoing emails, you need to set it up to use your ISP smtp mail servers. and incoming setup with your email provider.

Incoming mail works fine. The problem is sending out emails. It worked fine until a week ago. And the funny thing is I can send emails through http://email.secureserver.net/webmail.php fine from any other computer in my office. However, with my home computer I can aonly recieve and not send.

The fact that I can send out emails from any computer in the world but not my home computer tells me that the problem is with my computer. but since I am everything but computer savvy. I don't know where the problem is nor do I have a clue on how to fix it. I asked my Host godaddy.com and got no reply from them.

I uninstalled BitDeffender antivirus and replaced it with Symentac. Still nothing. Or could there be virus insice my website?

No virus, but could easy be the virus software, that is not letting you send your email, you may have to approve or set the virus software up, to send and recieve, that is the most likeliest fault! I have had the same problem myself, years ago, with virus software...try switching off the virus checker and the firewall, and try to send, it does sound more like the virus software or firewall, that is picking something up! It is most certainly a configuration problem of your computer! I'll get back to you
