for slingbox to work prefectly, you need a good upload speed. what's the upload speed from your german ISP?

i have used slingbox and proxy servers hosted in UK without problem. i only find it a bit slow on sunday evening when everyone is at home using the internet.

my connection in singapore is only 8Meg with starhub.

@durain, I have noticed you have some experience in using Slingbox. I would have one in UK with a nice upload speed, so this should not be a problem.

What bothers me though are the poor reviews over Singapore internet providers, especially when it comes to download data from abroad servers. On some forums ppl with 100 Mbit Starhub were getting just 2.5 Mbit from UK servers. Singtel is getting better reviews / results based on user's experiences from other forums, however similar downlink from UK.

What is your experience on your Starhub's 8 Mbit connection? What Kbps transfer rate are you getting from your UK location, assuming that you have around 1500 Kbps uplink there? Are you able to constantly get maximum of the uplink speed? Also what is the Ping latency, some ppl were posting with UK latency over 600ms, isn't it too annoying then to manage the Sky receiver remotely?

Do you use SlingCatcher and watch the stream on the TV?

Thanks for "warm" welcome :-) I am Polish, living in Malta since 2,5 year. On my recent trip to Singapore, I was simply amazed by this country, so decided to move there at the end of this year.

Well, true. Is the speed from UK good enough to watch the stream on TV? I am just reading mixed reviews over the Spore's ISP providers...

Beside it was not the question if it works for you, but how it works. Asked for some details if you get the full downlink rate and which ms latency you have with UK servers on you Starhub connection? Would appreciate that info.

New UK TV Service I came across

Post by kodeasia » Wed, 13 Feb 2013 11:33 pm

I have been using this service called Thai Expat TV for the last few months and it's working great! They have all the UK channels without the need to use a VPN or Proxy server solution.

They have a free 2 day trial here: https://www.thaiexpat.tv/free_trial.php

Check it out, they also have a full 7 day history of programmes using their new windows/mac/mobile player.
