The diving season in Phuket starts around November, which is when the season at Tioman closes. However, even in off season you can still dive at Phuket as well - just not at all dive sites. I did some diving up there in July and had nice dives at Racha Yai, which protected from the monsoon and has year round diving. Also King cruiser, and Phi phi dives are year round.

I have good experience with Sunrise Diving: http://www.sunrisediving.net/home.html
They are easy to find, in Patong, just across the road from the JungCeylon shopping center.

They can help you arrange accommodation there too if you want.

I did my AOW with them and a couple of leisure dives during various trips.

The season for Tioman closes, but the season for Sipadan is still opened. It is one of the best dive spots in Malaysia. If you are interested, please do email me at [email protected] or buzz me at 90040400 for more details. We are likley going in Dec. Cheers!

tioman 26-28 sept

Post by poolgirl » Wed, 24 Sep 2008 11:02 pm

hi kinda last minute, but i realised i should have posted my tioman trip invite under "entertainment, leisure sports" instead of "30s forum" duh.

the trip is ON. there r 2 of us gg (1 guy, 1 gal), and we will be driving down fri night, returning sunday evening.

planning abt 3 dives in all, nothing too frenetic as the other objective is to kick back and relax.

most of the arrangements have been made, so if you don't mind putting up with it there's space for two more (nonsmokers pref).

pls pm me if interested.

hey all,

i'm quite new here in singapore and interested in diving as well.

i just did it once on the philippines (which was awesome), but am neither experienced nor do i have a license.

that's why i'd be interested in learning and making an open water dive license.

are there any spots to learn nearby? how long would this take roughly?

are there some people interested as well??

cheers.

Want to dive!

Post by Laksa » Sat, 24 Jan 2009 9:25 pm

Hi Guys,

I am an avid diver who recently moved to Singapore. I would love to hear about any dive clubs to join or trips that people are planning. Are there any weekend dive trips worth doing in Singapore? It sounds like there is a great discussion going on already in this forum so I'm excited to hear from everyone!

Bad attitudes & Services from Orpheus Dive shop @ Beach

Orpheus Dive has been acquired by Passion Scuba Pte Ltd. All dive operations and travel will be handled effectively by Passion Scuba Pte Ltd and all retail will be managed by The Scuba Boutique Pte Ltd.

Orpheus dive shop in the Beach Road, the ownership has been transferred and the services are lower than expected
My friend recommended this dive shop to me and strongly advised that this dive shop provides a good services and reasonable prices for the dive equipments. Without the second thought, I sign up the refresher course with them and looking forward to have an exciting day. However, the expectation is lower than average.

The course beginning with 1 hour late, after reaching the training pool, there was so many passionate beginners paying attention to their instructors in order not to miss out any important information. I was very happy that I could go down to the pool to begin my diving experience after stopping for years.

Orpheus Dive shop only assign a Dive Master to guide for the refresher course, at his early 20ish, I was fine with it, he went thru a cycle of what to do in the pool, follow by assembling the weight and BCD. You know, we had everything, fins, tanks, snorkel, etc, BUT we short of regulator. He immediately made a call, other dive instructors nearby laugh at us. There was the 1st mistake. He started to loss his direction.

He started to show me other things since we had to wait for someone to bring us the regulator, all the divers had jump into the pool and enjoy the lesson. I’ve began to assess their diving knowledge.

Once the regulator was arrived, we prepared the weight belt, and set it on the floor, the dive master help me to put on the BCD, I inform him “weight belt

........... .
Should have used Dolphin. James is a stud and he is the cheapest on the island. He does it out of passion, not for money $. My wife and I both got certified with him and would go with him over anyone else.

It is too late, my friend recommended it, so without second thoughts I sign up for it, but come to think about it, friend recommended doesn't mean it is good.

Instructor and dive master whoever provides the diving lessons have the big influences to the beginners, whatever they teach, guide and show underwater, are the information that convey to beginners. With the wrong signals and mistakes make during the lessons, can lead to serious dive accidents.

Now I’ve more prepared and alert if I’m doing my AOW, I wouldn’t sign up to the dive shop if they can’t transfer AOW knowledge. By looking at short of Regulator or partially full oxygen tanks at the boat are definitely not a funny way to jump to the open water.

Btw, is there any good service dive shop around? I would like to get my fins and snorkel for next coming dive trip.

BANGKOK - Thailand's navy was on Monday searching for six foreign tourists and one Thai missing at sea after a boat sank in a storm near the southern resort isle of Phuket, a police official said.

I read about the news this morning, I shock to hear this and hopefully the navy can quickly locate the missing passengers. Pray for the passengers’ safety.

Shouldn’t it a must for boat driver or dive center read the weather forecast before sailing? They should have ensure the divers and the rest of the boat passengers' safety.

As a diver, what should we require to plan for a safety dive trip? Anyone of you can advise for the pre-preparation?

RULDS,
Thanks for the message, do you have email that I could write to James?
