Affidavit - Common Law Marriage: Anyone Succeed?

Post by rimscript » Fri, 14 Dec 2007 2:54 am

Hi - I know this has brought up numerous times on the board

I am a US citizen (on EP) moving to singapore with my partner (girlfriend) and need to obtain a LTSVP for her.

I was wondering if anyone has been successful in getting an Affidavit of Common Law Marriage from the US Embassy in Singapore. If so, where you successful in follwoing through and obtaining the LTSVP for your partner?

thanks for any input!

Yes it can be done, provided you also have documentation to back up the affidavit such as loans in both names, utility bills/phone bills showing both parties living in the same unit/address/house in the US. Provided this isn't something that started the month before leave to come here you shouldn't have any problem. However, if you weren't co-habitating prior to arrival you might have a problem convincing the local authorities of same.

Hi,

Given that I am now in the identical situation to the one you described a few months ago, I was wondering if you had any success with securing the common law marriage document from the US Embassy. Many thanks.
