**Greece to Singapore**---we need some help !

Post by theodoros » Sun, 09 Dec 2007 7:31 pm

HELLO FROM GREECE!

really pleased to be moving to lovely singapore next week along with out twin boys ,working for the NUS, for the next 4 years.

sadly the kent ridge NUS accomodation place ....will be sold so we cannot stay there but they provided us with 2 weeks hotel accom.

we plan to rent an HDB flat or an older condo, maybe 3-4 bedrooms to accomodate us.

our budget is 3.500-4.000 $SG.

we need some info please lovely people.

A- which areas are well connected by bus or MRT with NUS?

B-is our budget OK for a partly furnished 3-4 bed- flat?

C-is satellite dishes allowed on HDB's/ or condo's to watch some european sattelites(hotbird-astra sats)?

D-how much are the agent fees and how much money we need to have with us?

E-is it better to bring euros and exchange them in singapore?

thanks in advance, we will be happy to give any info for greece..

god bless you all.

Hi theodoros,

Here's some answers to your questions:

A - West Coast area condos District 05, Clementi MRT.

B - More likely possible for a 3 bedrooms in the West Coast ieL Banyan Condo, Royal Palm Mansion, lue Horizon, Dover Parkview, Heritage View, Normanton Park, for more lists, please search here.

C - Satellite dishes are not allowed, but you can subscribe to your favourite sports channel from our cable service provider here.

D - Rentals S$2,500 and below, you would need to pay your agents one month gross rental for the first twelve months or up to twenty four months.

E - Would be better to exchange the currency in your home country.

You can contact the Sales Department at (65) 61000300 or email: [email protected] for further assistance in renting.

here's 2 answer to your questions...

C - hotbird and astra footprint is way to far to reach singapore! remember, the world is round, not flat ;) if you really want to watch european channels or better still your home channels in greece, you can "stream" it via the internet. only catch is, probably cant get the device in greece or singapore! the device is a slingbox from www.slingmedia.com.

E - bring as much euro as you can into singapore and exchange them in the local money changer (NOT banks!). remember you can haggle for a better rate if you are exchanging a lot. shop around for the best rate. or if you want to do it from bank in greece to an account in singapore (into local currency), use something like www.xe.com and trade in FX.

Great to meet another NUS-er! We've lived in Clementi in an HDB apartment for 8 months now. It's very people friendly--very family friendly. I'd suggest you look in Clementi--lots of nice places here.
