Restore Hard Drive

Post by huggybear » Fri, 19 Oct 2007 7:06 pm

anyone know the best place to have a hard drive restored?

i have a western digital Mybook.

all i get when it turns on is a clicking sound (3 times) and then it's unreadable.

i know there are services to have it restored but the price quote is around 2,500 sgd....

PS DO NOT BUY WESTERN DIGITAL PRODUCTS. THEY ARE A PIECE OF $H IT

Is the information on it very important? I don't know much about mybook, although motherboards on start up beep once if correctly working and each beep after is related to a standard fault chart. But a click sounds like the hard disk platters or sectors are damaged, probably bad sectors on the disk, there is software that can do it, or detect the trouble on the western digital website although the link is on error codes
there is also diagnostic software.

If the data is not so important, a new hard disk and labour will be the cost. It doesn't take long to check it out, trial and error testing, swapping component is the quickest, and reinstalling the software, no more than 350$ for 80GB. But of course it depends on the size of the hard disk if its 250GB.
Data recovery is expensive, we learn the hard way, about backing up! :)

I could probably do it, but so could many others on here, it's all about how important it is I guess, and having the right equipment to do it.

Basically its just the same components as a computer I guess, probably less complicated!
