Qatar Airways btw is a 'very' strict company...
There will be times when there's too much money, but you just wish u r back in ur hometown cos theres no life in Doha... Times when u just cry inside ur room...
high chances also that u become single for ur whole stay there...

Qatar 12 Feb, 2012 interview
Hi all!!! This is the first time I am posting, would like to share my experience attending the Qatar open day on 12 Feb, 2012 (Sunday) at Holiday Inn.
I arrived at 8:30am, and there were already 40-ish people seated in the ballroom. I took a seat in the front row, as I read from this forum that's what we should do! Shortly after I was seated, one of the interviewers, an Indian lady, Sumi, came in and asked us all to wait outside because they needed to prepare the room. Everyone then just stood outside the ballroom, waiting anxiously.
At around 9am, we were asked to be seated in the ballroom. I tried again to get a front row seat... was extremely lucky that there was just one left! I guess many hopefuls know the advantage of front row seats, hence, all rushed for the front row.
There were two interviewers, Sumi, and a Chinese lady... couldn't quite catch her name, but I think it's Wai? The Chinese lady introduced herself, and informed us of the number of requirements needed to be a Qatar CC (e.g. willing to relocate to Doha, at least 21 years old, able to pass an arm reach of 212cm, etc), and the procedures for the day (hand in CVs individually, starting from the outter most corners of the front row, and to take note of the posters pasted outside the ballroom, and to wait for a phone call by 4pm). All these took only about 5 - 10min.
Was quite surprised we didn't have to watch a video, as a friend of mine told me there would be one.
I clutched onto my CV, passport size photo, and 4R full-length photo as I waited patiently for my turn... to calm my nerves and to pass time quickly, I started talking to a fellow candidate beside me
When the candidate before me was walking back to her seat to claim her belongings, I looked at my interviewer, Sumi, and gave her a smile... felt pretty discouraged when she didn't smile back. Then, I stood up and walked towards her, stood in front of her, and smiled again as I greeted her good morning... (still, no smile from her). I handed her my CV and photos, she circled my name on the CV, and asked if that's my name. I replied yes, my name is XX. She asked me about my job, and I briefly told her about it in 2 - 3 sentences. She then asked me how old am I, with me replying her "I'm 26 this year madam" (and felt a tinge of regret not having that written on my CV, or having a photocopy of my IC / passport for her). Lastly, she asked if this is my first time applying, and I replied saying, "Yes, this is my first time applying". She then sent me off by saying thank you, and I thank her and smiled at her once more before heading back to my seat for my belongings.
I said bye to the candidate whom I was chatting with, and wished him good luck, and left the ballroom. Felt really discouraged as the interviewer gave me the impression she wasn't interested to know more about me (the "one-on-one" interview with her was just less than a min!) Really thought I wouldn't get called up. Nonetheless, I took a photo of the poster pasted outside the ballroom with my Iphone, and left. It was just 9:40am when I left.
To be honest, I wasn't really thinking about Qatar anymore once I got home. Was just doing some housework when I received the call at 2pm! I was informed of my registration number, to be back at Holiday Inn at 2:30pm the next day (Feb 13, Monday), and to bring a pen.
I then spent the next hour thinking how am I to get out of work (I have a full-time job, 8:30am - 6pm, Mon - Fri), and also, looked back at the photo of the poster I took to note down what to wear / what not to wear.
So... will be attending the second round of interview today at 2:30pm. Decided to take urgent leave from work I believe today will be the English test and arm reach test. Will share my experience later if anyone is interested to know the outcome

Hi All! Regarding second round, I did not pass, as I wasn't able to reach up to 212cm. Although I am 162cm, I guess I have short arms / small hands? On hindsight, I'm fine with it, as moving to Doha is really a big step and huge change from living in Singapore I probably would have just went if I were selected, as it would be one hell of a challenge and experience! :p
Anyways, I will share my Qatar experience, and I hope my information will be helpful to those who want to learn more
Feb 13, 2012 (Monday) - I arrived around 2pm, and saw a couple of ladies already standing outside the ballroom. As it neared 2:30pm, the previous batch before us came out. Around 2:45pm, Wai (the Chinese lady) asked us to enter the ballroom, and she handed us each a sticker which beared our names, and registration numbers. There were about 40 - 50 of us. We then took our seats; each table could sit up to three candidates. I chose again to sit in the front row.
A 5 - 10min video was screened; this video showed the various Qatar advertisments. When it was completed, the interviewers then introduced themselves, gave us a background of where they came from, what they did previously, what they are doing now, etc.
Next, Sumi started a presentation on the background of Qatar Airways, and Doha. We were told not to take down notes... but, PLEASE LISTEN CAREFULLY AND ATTENTIVELY!!! (I'll explain why later...) The presentation took an hour, so it's impossible for me to detail everything here, but would just share a few key points I found interesting / useful for Qatar CC wannabes -
Accomodation
- In the city of Doha, where the company will provide free accomodation for all CC
- Same-gendered CC will live together
- 2 - 3 rooms per apartment, with shared common areas (bathroom, kitchen, living room)
- During first 6-month probation: you must return to your accommodation by 10pm every night, and only same gendered vistors allowed up to 10pm
- After confirmation: you must return to your accomodation by 3:30am every night, and all visitors (male/females) are allowed up to 10pm
- You are not allowed during probation or after confirmation to spend the night anywhere else apart from your assigned accomodation (i.e. you are not allowed to spend the night with your relatives / spouse / friends in their hotels if they visit you in Doha). As well, no visitors are allowed to spend the night at your accomodation (this includes relatives / spouse / friends)
Salary
- During probation: USD968* + meal allowance + flight allowance ($12.50*/hr)
- After confirmation: USD1068* + meal allowance + flight allowance ($12.50*/hr)
- You will fly an avg of 60 - 70 hours per month
- (*) The prices quoted above are the best estimates to my memory as I did not have them written down!
Contract
- 3 years (with a 2-year bond)
Alcohol / Pork products / Fasting month
- Doha is an Islamic city; during the fasting month, all restaurants will be closed from sunrise to sunset. No eating / drinking / chewing gum in the public. For non-Muslims, you are only allowed to eat / drink in private, at home
- No pork products are allowed to be brought into Doha
- Alcohol is available in some hotels / restaurants. However, you are not allowed to buy and store alcohol at home.
Marital Status: 5 years
- When you join Qatar as a single, you have to stay single for the next 5 years. If you are married, stay married for 5 years, if you are a single-parent, stay as a single parent for 5 years, etc. This has something to do with the company benefits to your family / spouse.
Alright, so after the super long presentation and Q&A section, we were given a short 10min break, and asked to return to our seats to sit for an English test after the break. We were given 50 min to sit for the test, and while writing the test, we would be called up individually for the 212cm arm reach test.
The test consisted of about 4 sections -
1) MCQs - on questions related to the presentation (this is why you must LISTEN!!!) For example, CEO of Qatar (they will try to trick you with Akmar Al-Baker or Almar Al-Baker), Qatar is a how many star airline, how many continenets does Qatar fly to, etc. If you LISTEN, you will do fine, as they do repeat or put emphasis on what would be tested when they present it. I am confident I probably got all right, or at least 8/10 right.
2) MCQs - Reading Comprehension: you are given a short passage, read it, and answer questions, very straight forward
3) MCQs - Math: you will get questions like, Shanghai is 5hours ahead of Doha, and the flight from Doha to Shanghai is 8hours, what time will you arrive in Shanghai
4) Composition - Tell us about a change in which you had no control of, what happened, how did you feel, and what was the long term outcome.
I don't quite remember exactly how many MCQs were there to be honest, probably 30 - 40 questions max?
After everyone was done, we were asked to leave the room, while the interviewers took about 30 - 40 min to mark.
We returned to the ballroom around 6pm, for elimination round! They called out the names / numbers of those who got selected through the next round, and everyone was asked to leave the room to say our goodbyes, before the selected ones went for the next round.
As I did not make it, I am unable to share anymore from here on. I only know the next round consist of discussions, and if successful, they would be invited back the next day (Tuesday, 14 Feb) for the final interview.
