N00Bie with a few unrelated questions.

Post by jonsey » Tue, 09 Oct 2007 9:01 pm

Hi folks,

I've been here 2 days and just have a few questions.

Is it safe to drink the water from a condo's kitchen tap or should I only drink bottled water?

Can anyone recommend a health insurance policy that wont break the bank but will cover me if the worst happens?

I have some valuable hi-fi equipment back home in storage. Is it worth the hassle of transporting it here? Will customs try to slug me import duty even though it is pre-owned personal equipment?

Thanks in advance.

1) Water good.

2) What kind of coverage do you want? Major medical and hospital? How much deduction? Do you want to have coverage when you are out of Singapore, including home country? Do you want medical evacuation if you are in the middle of a medically backwards country? Will you want US coverage? Are you American?

3) Unless your hifi stuff runs on 240V, you won't want to bring it. Unless someone else is paying shipping you will probably freak at the shipping cost. No customs or duty hassle but what you see what shipping costs you may well decide to sell/store the stuff and buy new equipment here.

OK thanks.

1) Drinking it, Good.

2) I would only want basic coverage. I only travel Singapore, Thailand and Australia. No need for medical evacuation. I would just need cover if I need hospitalization in either of these 3 countries. I am happy to pay for any out-patient services and dental etc. I'm an Australian.

3) Hi-Fi is currently stored in Thailand and is 240 V. The cost of replacing it here would be between $20-$30,000. Shipping would probably be around $4,000. If customs isn't going to be a hassle and/or expensive then it might be worth trouble.
