re-importing dogs from UK/AUS/NZ after less than 6 months?

Post by basil » Fri, 05 Oct 2007 1:53 pm

Hi :)

Has anyone left the country, pet in tow, and then in less than 6 months needed to return?

We are having problems explaining to AVA that our dog doesnt meet the 'been in country of export for 6 months' requirement but that the country he had spent his time in was Singapore so in theory he should be ok to import back.

Im really hoping it's red tape that can be resolved. But when I call AVA they don't seem to understand or they say 'yes that's fine' (in a casual 'can do' manner) but I really need them to put it in writing for the paperwork side.

basil, my friend took her dogs to NZ and then brought them back pretty quickly. Let me check with her on the timescales; if it was within 6 months I will put you in touch with her. I will PM you although I know you can't yet reply.

OK an answer which I'll post here in case it helps anybody else -

"I had to wait until the 6 months were up, AVA up here was completely inflexible."

Sorry :(

oh dear :( - well thanks for checking.

Well on a positive note things seemed to have now changed. After lots of phone calls I now have a reference number and an official dispensation for the 6 month rule.

Thought i would mention it on here just in case anyone is ever in the same situation.
I just hope in reality it all goes smoothly - I would be gutted if we ended up with quarantine.

If it should come to that, is there anyone you can leave your dog with until the six months is up? I know that's what Aliya chose to do, rather than put them through quarantine.
