PS3 Must have games, gadegets, blu-ray discs, and SACDs

Post by audiojunky » Tue, 02 Oct 2007 1:56 pm

Hey - I was wondering that there must be a bunch of folks here who own the PS3. So how about sharing what you think are the must haves for the PS3:

1) Games

2) Accessories

3) Blue-Ray Discs

4) SACDs

I don't have the ps3 yet but I regularly read PSM3 (used to be psm2) and find their reviews quite good. Although that may just be cause I have similar tastes to the writers, you may have different tastes. They do list all games and some movies with the rankings from past reviews every month though, so maybe you can check it out. They also have a dvd with it so you can see what the games look like, but obviously you have to rely on them for the gameplay.

Thanks a ton - will pick up a copy of PSM3 today. The DVD should be a great way to try out games before actually purchasing them.

Sorry, should've said in my other post, you can't actually play the game, it's just video of the reviewer's gameplay. As far as I know you can only get the playable games on the official sony magazines, which I find biased (I wonder why? :D ) so don't usually get them.

I've been messing around with "remote play" with my PlayStation Portable and PlayStation3.

I can connect to my PS3 using my PSP from anywhere.
It gives me a 'remote desktop' version of my PS3 on the PSP.

It means that, as long as I have network for my PSP, I can connect back home to my PS3 and play movies, MP3's and games from it.
The PS3 at home is also connected to my PC with my home network, so I'm also able to play movies/MP3's from my PC through my PS3 and then over the internet to my PSP - no need for a huge memory stick for the PSP.
I honestly don't see me using this function much - but the gadget value is great :)

Also - Blu Ray movies rule*!

As it happens, I don't really play games much on the PS3.
Games like Halo 3 and Gears of War keep me firmly on my xbox 360 for gaming.

*to be precise - High Def movies rule - I don't want to touch the debate on HD DVD or Blu Ray :D

i'll get a PS3 soon... is there any recommended stores with a nice price ?

i been checking on ebay for a while and i saw somes being sold at 650 dollars, wich is fine for me, while when i checked quickly in the stores it was more like at least 700, and more like 799 actually.
And I don't wish to put that much. So is there any stores interesting out there or will i have to get it on ebay ?

i am not so sure on getting one as of yet. hang in there, i strongly believe the prices are going to dip this coming christmas. i am a great fan of PS2 adn I can't wait to get my hands on a PS3, but i have got a friend who owns a shop in sim lim and he told me to wait a while before gettign one.

As for the most popular games in PS3, you can try Grand Turismo 5 (but not out yet), Gundam Musou, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ridge racer 5. These are pretty popular games.

To help you with soem reviews, you could go to www.ign.com (to check out reviews) or www.gametrailers.com to have a preview of the game before buying. They do have in game shots and opening movies.

A cheaper alternative. Hope it helps. :)

I am playing for little more than a year now and I think that only now there are finally good games coming out.

Recently I very much enjoyed Ratchet And Clank Future, Tools Of Destruction. A bit brief , but if you're a fan of the series, a must buy ! Very colorful and without any real flaws, this one's in my opinion the first one to show off what the ps3 can do.

Asassins Creed - Graphically stunning, the best to date yet when it comes to the visuals. Get's a bit repetivite after the first couple of hours of gameplay, currently resting in the corner

Have both Fifa and the new PES but not happy with either of them. Fifa is a bit slow and PES usual lack of license puts me off. I think those games are only good when you play them online against others.

Speaking of which, how good and stable are connections on the psnetwork from Singapore ?

I like COD4 on the xbox, the new medal of honour on the xbox is good as well, so it should be no worse on the ps3, if you're looking for shooters. Resistance Fall Of Men was a good game when the PS3 was first released, you might want to look into that.

Are xbox games and ps3 games widely available in Singapore and what do they normally cost ?

Must have Blu-ray - Blade Runner Final Cut. An astonishing restoration process resulting in a beautiful HD picture. So far my favourite Blu-ray title.

Closely followed by Rattatoulie, which looks and sounds glorious.

Resistance fall of man is my favorite game, after going thru simple, medium and hard levels, you get rewarded when you play on line and that's where the real fun starts. Medal of Honour is pretty good. Blue Ray quality is excellent.

I bought mine from a store in Vivo City for 650 about 50 meters from the small entrance to best denki, can't remember the name, but they also have quite a few PS3 games.
