Homeschooling

Post by Thaiclan » Mon, 01 Oct 2007 8:07 am

After a disappointing start involving one of the IB International Schools here I have withdrawn my 5 year old daughter from the school and have opted to home school her instead.
I have all the resources, education and experience to proceed confidently enough with a life of home school, however the age old question regarding the social impact cannot be ignored. We have plenty of children where we live but of course not before they finish their respective schools by 4pm +. Also at this age group most extra-curricula activities are held "after school" also.
Perhaps there are other 5-7 year olds that would prefer home schooling or indeed already are home schooled that we could connect with?
Perhaps we could home school in small groups (less than 6) so we achieve the best of both learning and group work?
Any ideas or thoughts gratefully received. :D

There is a homeschooling group in Singapore. They have a website and a yahoo egroup. Let me know if you need the address and I'll find it for you.

Hi, I was homeschooling my boy turning 6 next week, while waiting for SAS to open up. The homeschooling community here is very small, but I enjoyed being at home with my son for almost 8 months. (I was also disappointed with another International School)

During this time, I met a wonderful mother who has a boy my son's age and she was teaching 3 other boys. The mothers would take turns everyday to teach the boys but now, most of them have left to prepare for Primary 1. In Singapore, it is very hard for you to homeschool, you have to write pages of why you want to do it to the Ministry of Education. So this mom is now on her own although she joins the bigger homeschool group for outings.

You can get in touch with the general homeschool group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/singapore ... =229343672

If you are interested in contacting this mother who is from South Africa, please send me an email and I will give you her details. My address is [email protected]
