I don't want to appear to be negative but .... Any top school especially top pre school at a reasonable price are booked 2 years in advance. Eton house etc always have places but then you're paying
International School prices almost .... It might be different in remote areas but the above certainly apply to central or popular areas.
Little Oaks, St Johns etc are all crazy you almost have to put names down before birth ... We've got a 9 month old and are struggling ...

It really depends on how long you are going to be here. Like the previous poster said - there are waiting lists for most international preschools. Some are more reasonable than others (6 months vs 7 years). There are some fantastic montessori programs where the waiting list may be shorter - or non-exsistent. There is a lot of fluctuation with people moving every year so you may be lucky - but if you are planning to stay for a long time you may want to visit the schools, pay your deposit and wait for your number to come up. It also depends on where you live and if you have a car or can walk or your child will take the bus. Do you know the area you will be living? Are there certain things you are looking for (mandarin? british system? shorter hours? longer hours? montessori? ...etc) That may help narrow down your search.

and then of course, there's the ambiguity of what you mean by "top". i'm not sure preschools are, or should be, gauged according to academic performance of their pupils. but if that is what makes a preschool "excellent" in your opinion, perhaps you'd be better off with the local preschools rather than the international ones.

Totally agree. So much of what they learn at that age is through play. So anywhere they go where they have friends, patient, loving teachers and fun sounds tops to me.
