Not intentional underlining for you personally, but so many people out here are in denial as to why they need a maid in the first place.
I am against slavery and slave labour and maids here are paid slaves and the excuse ' it is better than where they come from' and ' they like to work for expats', is just that and excuse which can ease the denial.
Any help can be an asset anywhere in life and as you so rightly say it is about good and strong parenting and part of that is being honest eh?
Teaching our children real honesty is important too?
Our kids ideals for life are quite often moulded from our practices as parents and paying people for what they do and what they are worth and not just taking advantage of the situation to 'keep up with the jones'es' (as goes on out here in a big way), is a much more beneficial way for all ?
As I said we had professional help with a nursery and paid what they charged as professionals, but these maids do not and can not charge what they are worth and are often expolited by agencies and expat empoyers to boot.
This is not a personal gripe at anyone in particular, but only my opinion on what I have seen and experienced here.

so i was correct in assuming you had a personal axe to grind of sorts?

i think if you asked some of the teachers that got paid a 'professional' wage that it was close to slave labor as well. :)

i've read a few of the maid discussions here and elsewhere - it brings up such strong feelings. i'm going to stay out of it from here on because i think the op got the answers that were needed and there's no point flogging this poor dead horse of a topic.

If you've read a lot of the old threads on this the you must know that I've shown remarkable restraint in staying out of it this time. The anti-slavery advocate that I am..... I'm outta here!
