Good mooncake

Post by HunBunny80 » Thu, 20 Sep 2007 7:09 pm

Any good mooncake to recommend? My husband wants to buy some for my parents (first time ever!!!) so got to make sure they are good ones. :D
He doesn't like mooncake so testing before buying is a waste of time. I'm pretty useless myself.

Apologies right up front, but I have tried, and have yet to find a good mooncake. All warrant a hasty use of a serviette to spit out the offending sludge.

Man that's harsh. Real harsh! :o

Have to admit, I can't eat redbean mooncakes but I'm a sucker for quad-egg yoke & lotus paste ones with traditional covers (don't like the spongy which/green funny ones). Had some nice ones today but don't know where they came from. Had a new variety that looked like a eggy one but it was a yellow custard in the centre. Different.

Goodwood Park is supposed to have good ones.

Spat those out in a potted plant in the lobby.

If you've left it this late you can't afford to be too choosy. Lots of the good ones are sold out and the rest are probably getting expensive.

Try Chinatown, a brand called Tai Zhong Kok (means Big China literally). They're well-known and cheaper than the horrendously expensive hotel ones which really aren't all that great anyway.

Oh, and SMS is right. Go for the traditional double yolk ones, to know what a mooncake is supposed to be. I don't like the fancy ones either.

Not sure what your problem is sprite but I'd have to say that was a bit uncalled for.

There is this place along Balestier Road, that sells mooncakes only during this season. Usually it's a mechanic's garage.

Can't remember exactly but I'm sure if you ask the folks running the famous chicken rice/porridge place along that very road will know.

Exceptional mooncake
that literally flies you to the moon.

if your husband doesn't like them i reckon his parents won't like them either. generally speaking (STEREOTYPE), i don't think westerners like mooncake.

I think they are disgusting but i agree with SMS, the ones with lotus paste and the egg yolk is all right (with snow skin).

but if you want to buy me moon cakes, pls buy me the haagan daaz ice cream filled ones thanks.

the Raffles one with white skin, and white chocolate and champagne instead of yog was great.
