Working in China

Post by perplex_sheep » Fri, 14 Sep 2007 11:38 am

Is there anyone who have recent experiences in working in china? or you know someone who is working in Shanghai now?

My exboss is offering me a position in Shanghai and I just want to know how is working and staying in SH going to be like. Things like, how much will rental cost for a 2 bedroom apartment in central area. Night life? Getting to know people there? The working attitude there? Etc. Any and all information are useful!

Thanks!

Best would be to communicate with some of the expats currently living there. There are forums similar to this one such as www.shanghaiexpat.com where you should find answers to most of your questions or find people that may be willing to answer any new questions you have.

Good Luck

Shanghai is a good place to be as it is thriving. Night life there is perpetually 24 hours non-stop. (that is, if you have energy). Rents can be as much as in Singapore depending on where exactly you want to put up. There are some condos that cater mainly to expats. Gu Bei is one area u can consider. If you work in Pudong then you should consider areas around there. There are some good golf courses around in Suzhou but can be quite a drive away. Pick up some Mandarin or Putonghua so that it is easier to get around. Be wary as it is not a safe as in Singapore.
