Check: Control Panel - System-Device Drivers and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks; if so you have a software conflict.

go back to where you bought it from and ask them. Being a Sony Viao its top doller and therefore the shop should help you out on this.

Otherwise it's
A/ something you've installed yourself thats "grabbing" the camera resource.
B/ The camera is not working correctly and reporting such back to the system

You could always press ctrl alt del and check processes to see what running and maybe screwing up your camera.
Unfortunately this wil include understanding what your looking at and using google and time to understand what you don't.

Good luck

Thank you!

But I don't think bringing the laptop back to the shop will be of any help at all. The salesman who sold it to me was only eager to clinch the deal, grab the commission and F**K Off. . .

No explaination on the laptop was provided at all, guess I'm expected to figure things out on my own with the manual given. But unfortunately, being a computer retard I'm totally lost!

Then try this although it will take a while;

Alternatively just type sony notebook forums into google there are several.
Hope you find what you are looking for, by the way what OS are you using?

I'd still be looking for another program thats "holding" the camera resource.
Try to isolate any software that uses the camera . video conferencing, video messenger .something like that. a program may be running in the background ( waiting for an incoming connection).

When you say you can;t activate the camera what are you trying to do?

I'm afraid i haven;t used vista at all so not much help at all.

Thanks bigfilsing! I was told like wot you have said that the window messenger was "grabbing" the camera. Was left with no choice but to bring the laptop back to the place i bought it from to ask the darn salesman to explain everything to me in detail! :mad:

i wasn't using the camera for anything actually but since it came with the built in cam i just wanted to try it out. Who would have thought it would be so problematic?? :x
