Question one -- are you actually going to be hired as permanent staff, or as what MSers call "contingency staff" (=temporary)? Virtually all MS support is outsourced, which means you wouldn't be working for MS at all, and will be treated accordingly.

So I happen to know someone who just might be your boss  and here's what she thinks (translated) --

As contingency staff, you will be a "second class citizen" (her words). The good news is that if you're very skilled and smart you have a good chance of becoming a permanent employee; the bad news is that a skilled and smart person would probably find CS work very tedious, and in fact would be unlikely to even apply for the position.

Work environment is generally good. Showing up a bit late is OK, two-hour lunches are OK, leaving on the dot is normal, although (like any company) there are overtime bursts when deadlines approach. Offices have Xboxes and massage chairs, and nobody's going to complain if you IM all day long (as long as you get your work done).

However, there are large differences between different teams, so take all the above with a grain of salt.

Let me know if you do take the position!

You are the only thing funny here. Considering you don't have a clue as to what you are saying. Why are they funny. Don't know too much about MS business culture izzat?

What an asshole. I think sundaymorningstaple knows nothing about culture diversity never mind MS business culture. I never usually get involved in flaming but wow, I’ve been reading these forums and the moderators tend to be real assholes. Read and think before taking a comment out of context... again I’ve seen this too many times on this forum (mostly from administrators an moderators strangely enough!). Give the guy a break.

Aren't you the erudite one. From the style of your prose, unfortunately, you're not too much better.

That's kinda cute considering you are just out of the UK for 2 or 3 months for the first time. As you are only 24 years old with such a foul vocabulary consisting of only one 7 letter word, one would have to suspect that you could have been a chav or maybe a football lout at some point prior to your departure. At least you did cause av_cat to write with better English.

You would seem to be our troll flavour of the month. Welcome to the board.
